When I saw this headline, all I could think was "WTF!? Because he WALKED???" But, then I read it. Apparently, he took his drunk-driving arrest so seriously that he walked 30 miles to go to his court hearing for sentencing because he couldn't find a ride, and in 90 degree temps. He was hours late, so they re-scheduled his hearing. This time he got a ride. The judge felt bad that he couldn't reduce the mandatory sentence, but did allow him to turn himself in later this month to start his sentence so he could get things ready for being gone. He had apparently impressed them with his determination to not drive while unlicensed.
Quite a different story from the ones we sometimes read about a guy who drives to his DUI hearing after drinking again - don't you think??

I do applaud the guy for walking to court when he couldn't get a ride. I am sure the judge would have given him a lighter sentence if he could but that's the law. I just hope after the man serves his sentence he don't drink and drive again.

I like the sound of this guy haha, what else is he supposed to do? get a taxi? that will cost a lot of money that is very stupid that they expect him to be on time when he is 30miles away with no proper lift to get to his court hearing.
Great discussion

Well, he probably had plenty of time before the hearing to find a ride and they assumed a family member would bring him or something. But, who knows - maybe he HAD a ride that backed out at the last minute and he had no choice. It doesn't really say - just that he didn't have a ride the first time.
