Weight and Advertising

What do you think of advertising in weight loss commercials? Are they designed to make people (women) feel bad about themselves so they'll be motivated to lose weight or are they merely advertising a product a lot of people can use? Ex: The Weight Watchers commercials with Cher's A Song For the Lonely playing in the background. Was that a deliberate dig to get people to pay attention?

I haven't seen the specific commercial, but overall, I think that what the weight loss companies really care about is making money. That's okay -- that's what they are in business for!

I don't know the particular commercial you are referring to, but the commercials here are designed to motivate people to lose weight and feel positive about it, not to make them feel bad.
