Hey! I was just wondering - does anyone else here at myLot do fondue at home? I absolutely love The Melting Pot restaurant but I cannot afford their prices on a regular basis so I only go once or twice a year for special occasions. For those that do not know - The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant that serves all kinds of fondue. They have cheese, meat and vegetables, and then the dessert fondues. However, I love fondue so much that I bought 2 electric fondue pots and make the cheese fondue at home about once or twice a month. I do the cheddar cheese fondue and the family just loves it when I do. I always make 2 pots of the cheese fondue with bread, apples, carrots and tomatoes to dip in it. The kids love it - even my 3 year old, but then again what kid hates cheese??I also melt chocolate and make chocolate dessert fondue. We dip marshmallows and fruit and the kids love that too.So, it is nice to be able to enjoy that style of cooking at home and for the kids to enjoy it too. (I have never taken the kids to The Melting Pot - I cannot afford too!). So for them it is an especially wonderful experience. So does anyone else go to the trouble of making fondue at home too? Or am I the only one? Which kind do you like? And have you ever been to that wonderful place - The Melting Pot? Enquiring minds want to know....

It is yummy and pretty easy to do. I always do the cheese fondue, sometimes I do the dessert fondue. I need to learn how to do the fondue with the meats and then how to make all the yummy sauces. If you want to see what it is like go to http://www.meltingpot.com you can look at the menu there. It will give you an idea of what all you can make for fondue.

Years ago I went out and bought a fondue pot and made fondue once. I realy didn't like it so I never made it again. I eventually sold the fondue set up and have never thought about trying it again. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

Wow, I love fondue! I cannot imagine never eating it or cooking again! It is bad too because the cheese and the dessert fondue are very decadent foods too, not healthy in the slighest. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day!!!

I have never made my own fondue. My sister owns a few fondue pots, but they are not the electric ones. They are the older 70's ones that you light the fire under. Cheese fondue sounds pretty good though.

My mother had an old one from the 70's too, the ironic thing about it is that she hates cheese and never used it! She also is germ phobic so she never liked the idea of sharing a pot with someone else. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day!!!

I haven't had fondue in centuries! I've never been to The Melting Pot, but I used to make fondue all the time back in the 70's! It was the 'rage' back then but I didn't do it because everyone else was... I did it because it was fun and really brought people together who shared in it. I can understand why you love it so much! I really should get back into it. It is a great way to bring the family together to really share in something!

It's lots of fun and the kids love dipping their forks into the cheese. You can get the pot pretty cheap at either Linens N Things or Bed Bath & Beyond or if you are a member at Costco Wholesale. I have the Cuisinart electric ones and I have never had a problem. I love them! You should get one and do it for dinner one night. We just did last night!

I do, but not enough to my opinion. I think you need to be with a lot of people to make this fun and worthwhile. Also I dont have a pot so that kinda limits that then. I like the cheese fondue where you can dip whatever in cheese, but I also like the fondue where you fill the pot with oil and you can fry meat (or veggies). We tend to these things when the whole family gets together like christmas. love it!

Oooh, that is a great idea! Christmas fondue! I never thought about it during Christmas. We have a family of 6 so whatever I cook, fondue or not goes without having hardly any leftovers. Everyone loves my cooking. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day!!!

I've occasionally made cheese fondue. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it goes all lumpy.

I believe that it gets lumpy if you add too much cheese too quickly. The key is to add the cheese in small amounts and continually stir until fully melted, then add more cheese, and so on. Good luck fondue-ing!!
