Get my 3 year old to try new foods? She knows what she likes and refuses to try anything new. She has a weak stomach, and throws up if she even doesn't like the smell of something cooking. What do I do? I have been giving her quite a bit of juice and also, a vitamin everyday, but what else can I do to make sure she's at least TRYING new things?

Why don't you try involving her in the cooking of the food? In this way she might be able to appreciate what she is eating. I also agree that you should make present the food in a way that kids will love.

This is a great idea, I forgot I used to do this with my children, they are all grown now.

She's not unusual. Just keep trying to get her to try new things, eventually she will probably come around. She will will watch you and want to try the things you eat. Don't make a big deal or a scene if/when she throws up, she might be enjoying the attention. Eat what you like pretending you aren't paying any attention to her and soon her curiosity will get the best of her.

Why don't you start with some raw fruits and vegetables. She make like to snack on them rather than eat them cooked. It may take a little longer to acquire the taste for cooked ones. Try to make it fun. Maybe if you eat some with her she may like it too. Then again 3 year olds are stubborn but in time she will try new things on her own. Be patient.

I'm not a parent, but, this situation sounds just like I was. Or at least what I have heard from my mom. LOL And still, to this day I am way picky and still have a weak stomach, and I too have always at least gotten nauseous at the smell of something cooking. My mom even said that I even got sick from the sight of something I didn't like. I guess my best advice is, whatever you do try, the younger the better I think. Because I know how I am about trying things now, and I'm sure it would have been easier to learn to like stuff at a very young age than it is now. I think it's a good thing that you are giving her juice and a vitamin, sounds like a good precaution, and actually, those are good things even if she did eat more variety. Force feeding definitely isn't the way to go, but I'd say trying to get her to try things would still be a good idea, maybe eventually you will succeed. In the mean time, I'm sure there are other people with better advice. LOL I just thought this was interesting because of my personal experience as the picky child, with very similar reactions to food. Then again, maybe she will grow out of it, that is possible. And it is certainly the best case scenario. Good luck, and I hope you are both well and that you figure out a painless way to get her to try new foods.

Always offer variety. I always told my kids try it once, if you don't like it you don't have to eat it.

There was a time when my kids only eat hotdog and chicken nuggets each and everyday. We were frustrated because he would rather starve than eat anything. But after a while we noticed that he has changed and now eats most of the things that is served on the table. You could try making or serving food in a way she would like it. Like make potatoes shaped like stars or something. I hope it works for your daughter because it did not work with my son LOL :)

Try having her help you cook, start with things she likes and then begin to add to them. Make a fun and exciting. See if you can find a picture cookbook and buy it for her so she can function more independently. My son was a pro at the microwave by 4, he loved to cook. Don't underestimate her abilities.
