my parents loved us and did their best to raise us well.
in some areas they were overprotective.
during my whole childhood we were asked, Do you want bread egg? bread egg of course was a slice of bread dipped in egg.
and sometimes we would request, we want bread egg. as i grew i'd hear occasionally on tv or outside the home French Toast.
i always wondered what that was. it sounded so enchanting. so mystical and enticing. i wanted to try it some day. but it sounded way to fancy for something to have in our home.
then one earthshaking day i was talking with some other kids and they mentioned french toast so i asked them what it was.
after they described it, i said OH you mean bread egg. sometime after that i went to my parents. i was now looking back on that conversation and feeling embarrassed. i asked my dad WHY did you call it bread egg, when it is french toast?
my dad said that he and mother didn't think we'd understand and they were trying to make it easy for us. I know they loved us. they truly did. i just felt i was missing out on something when the rest of the world had french toast.

You know, I don't know if it's because I'm British and we have no tastebuds, but my mother thinks 'eggy bread' like that is the height of breakfast cuisine. I don't think French toast entered my vocabulary till about 5 years ago. It always seems a bit too sweet for my tastes, but there you go ;)

What an absolutely endearing post. Your parents were so sweet! You may have missed out on knowing you loved "French Toast" but you were wrapped in the love of your folks like an electric blanket on a cold winter's morn. If more kids were so loved, this would be an even greater planet to live upon. You have warmed my heart.

They sell thick bread made just for Frnch Toast. Now mix milk, an egg some cinnamon and a little bit of real vanilla flavoring and a little sugar for a great french toast batter. The amount of each itme depends on your tastes.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
