The 4Th we went to my daughters house to celebrate and watch the fireworks all over town. We were sitting out on her porch when this Gorgeous Golden retriever came running up on the porch and got right up behind me on the step. She was scared half to death by all the noise going on. She kept trying to get inside the house. Of course not knowing the dog Joey wouldnt let her just go into his house. It was really late by the time we decided it was time to go and my youngest daughter begged me to take the dog home with us ,because (ready for this) the dog wanted to stay with her. I told her that the dog was to well cared for to just be a stray and was someones pet. Well we go get in the car and as i am driving down the road this dog is keeping pace with my car.I am trying to fight stopping and putting her in the car. When this other dog runs out barking and growling at her, and going for her like it was gonna tear up this beautiful dog, so we get her in the car. I told My daughter I was going to have to find her owner, and if we couldn't find them then she could keep her. This dog was great, completely housebroke(never once pottied in my house), she played fetch , shook hands . Would sit or lay down when asked. The perfect dog. She even made sure I wasn't alone when I was having a Migraine and stumbling from it. I found her owners today and took her home. believe it or not her owner was the dog catcher in the town my daughter lives in. So my question is: If you found a lost dog and the dog was great and you fell in love with the dog , would you have kept it or taken it home? I knew how i felt when my little Cleo disappeared and i never found her.

Yes I would as I know I would be Heart broken if Gissi ever disappeared but not everyone is like that But I do not believe either that Gissi would settle with anyone else lol I would certainly try to find the Owner no matter how much I learned to love the Dog

I have three dogs, and I know that if one of them were lost, I would want whoever found them to call me or bring them home. Knowing this, I would have to say that I would definitely try to get the animal reunited with its family. I have actually been in this situation a couple of times in the last few years. On both occasions, the dog I found had on a collar with a phone number on it. I called the number attempting to locate the owners. The first one was easy. I had pulled over in a parking lot of a church not far from my house one evening right before sundown to make a phone call. As I talked on the phone, I got out of my truck and was looking through some stuff in the back of the truck. I was approached by a dog that was either a yellow lab or a golden retriever. He was really friendly, actually licking my hand when he got close enough to me, but he approached me cautiously. I noticed a tag on his collar, so I reached in the truck and grabbed my flashlight to read the tag. There was a phone number on it so I called it. The owner stated that they knew where I was, and would come get the dog. I opened the tailgate of my truck and tapped on it with my hand. The dog jumped right in, and I sat there rubbing it behind the ears and on the head for the few minutes it took for the owners to arrive. The other occurrence was a little more challenging. My daughter and I were out on our porch when the dog came to where we were sitting. It was a chihuahua. I have three of them myself. This one was wearing a tag with its name and a phone number on it. I called the number and asked if they were missing a dog. The lady I talked to stated that she knew the dog, but that she had given it to the friend of a relative over a year ago. She told me that she would come and get the dog as soon as her meeting was over, and she would see that the dog got home safely. She was going to call me when she got into my car to get directions to my house. I didn't want to put the dog in a carrier, and I knew that my three dogs would probably not allow the dog in the house without a ruckus, so I decided to stay out on the porch with the dog until the lady came to get it. It was the fact that I decided to stay outside with it that gave me my break. I was sitting on the porch with the dog in my lap when I heard a neighbor across the street come outside and start calling the dog's name. It turns out that the friend of the relative that they lady had given the dog to was my neighbor's daughter. My neighbor had recently brought the dog home with her, and was taking care of the dog. I had not seen the dog in the brief time it had lived with her, so I didn't know it was her dog. It was nice to get the dog home again.

If Lily would have had her collar on it would have been easier to find her people, but I guess they cant seem to keep her collar on her . She gets them off and chews them up her mama told me. If I couldn't have found her owners or they hadn't wanted her back we would have kept her for sure.

I would have looked for the owner as she must have been missed terribly. It has broken my heart to lose dogs or have a so-called friend take off with for her aunt who lived in another state. She had to be awesome to not break training in a strange house.

I remember how bad that hurt you losing Precious like that. You know i was really surprised that Lily didn't potty in the house after all she really didn't know us or the house. I think it must have been a matter of trust. She sure acted like she trusted us.And she seemed to love you and sam .

wow that's a great dog. If the dog is really taken care of and looks like its a house pet and not a stray then yeah, I'll try to look for the owner. Cause I have dogs as well and I know I'll be really sad if they were lost.

Wow, sounds like a really sweet dog. I'm just not much of a dog person. If I found a dog, it would have to be a pretty awesome dog for me to want to take it home.
