beggars

In my country, it is not uncommon to see beggars on the streets. They are everywhere.. at road intersections, pharmacies, bakeries and other public areas. There are times that i pity them cuz i think i am still so lucky to have the comforts in life unlike them so i give them money (though not that huge) but at times i also think that i shouldn't give anything so they will learn to look for whatever work there is to feed their families. What's your stand on this?

You must be a filipino! ^_^ Well, if not, then we have a common social problem in our place. They're almost all over here in the philippines. Almost every corner of the streets, they're there! They're sometimes intimidating though, they're also to be pittied since they'll no longer beggin if they really have something for their needs. But on the other hand, some of them are also using that as an escape of reality and also because of their laziness! But nonetheless, we could still give them what they want. And the best thing we can give is food, and not money. They could use that money on something else rather than buyinh food for them.

You are absolutely right, I am a FIlipino! Hehehe I also give them in kind like i buy them bread so they will have something to fill their stomachs. I seldom give money cuz there are those who use money for vices only. Thanks psalm1_3!

Yeah! That's the thing to be done. We should be giving them food, not money. They should have their needs, no their wants.. Just keep it uP! Continue helping others as best as you can! For sure, God blesses those who help the poor ones. Besides, a 20-peso-food is not a big amount to be given to these people. God Bless!

Yeah... I actually understand both of your concerns, and I do agree to give them in kind instead of cash. A lot of times I've seen beggars gamble with fellow beggars as soon as they're given coins, and worse -- they're actually just kids! If only these kids or their parents are given opportunities to have a better life...
