Running Red Lights

Is it just me or are there more people running red lights these days. I just came home from the post office which is not that far away. I witnessed at least two cars running red lights. The other day I was coming home from a friends house and witnessed a car accident because some jerk ran a red light. It seems like more people have less respect for traffic rules. More people run stop signs, red lights and speed out of control. Why do you think that is and have you witnessed this too?

It seems like during the summer people are not paying attention when driving for whatever reason. I guess they must have their minds on other things. I think it also might be related to cell phone usage even if they have a bluetooth or what ever that thing that sticks in the ear is called.

You know, I've often thought the same and see it all the time. It just seems like nowadays everybody is in a rush and they feel they have the right to go through the red lights and stop signs. There's more drivers on the road now than ever before, so maybe that has something to do with it in part. It seems like so many of them have a 'me first' attitude and there isn't the road-courtesy like there used to be. Then too I see a lot of those people (who are running the lights & stop signs) busy yakking on their cell phones and not paying attention.

There's definitely very little courtesy on the road and more and more people are talking on their cell phones while driving. It's against the law in my state, but it doesn't seem to stop people at all.

Now adays there are a lot of distractions. Cell phoneswith text messaging and gps, sterios,cd and dvd players all these things takes peoples eyes off of the road. Plus everyone is in a hurry God forbid if they should get stopped by a light. Here in Orlando Fl with all the tourist on the road and not knowing where they are going plus people don't take the time to read signs. I hate traffic. And not just traffic. People are just down right rude. And have anger issues. people have to relize that they are not the only ones on this planet. The world does not revolve around them. I say slow down and concider some one else today.

Oh, I so agree with you. Some cars now come with computer keyboards and screens. It's like the car manufacturers are encouraging people to multi-task while their driving. Too much distraction and no enough focusing on the road rules.

I think it's just one more part of how selfish people have become. Everyone is in a hurry. No one wants to wait. Everyone thinks he/she is more important than the other guy. I can't tell you how many times I've started to slow down at a yellow light only to look in my rear-view mirror and realize the guy behind me isn't going to stop. So I end up flooring it to get through. I'll get through on the yellow, but the guy behind me will definitely be going through on red. And I think, "Where are the cops when you need them?"

I used to watch countless cars run red lights every day at the intersection outside of an office I used to work at. I got so fed up with it that I called the police department and logged a complaint. A few days later they were ticketing cars left and right, however in a couple of days everyone was running red lights again. I think people do it because they know they are not going to get caught, they don't want to have to wait for the light to cycle again and they depend on those of us who abide by the traffic laws to pause when our light turns green so we can accomodate them and avoid an accident. There is another intersection in my neighborhood that I have almost been sideswiped at several times. For some reason the traffic coming from the left does not see their STOP SIGN and proceed straight thru. Then they have the nerve to gesture at ME when they are the ones running the stop sign! I have just learned to be defensive when approaching or going through an intersection.

You are right. I have seen a lot more people running the red light now, but they have always been doing it though. I feel like maybe people are in more of a rush since it's the summer. They probably dont pay much attention to what they are doing as long as they get where they want to go. Possibly, they just don't care about the traffic lights. Some people feel like its not breaking the law if there are no police officers around.

Oh God you want to talk about people running red lights? Come here in San Diego California it happens every time and every day. I'm telling you there are people that just don't care any more. 6 or 7 times I've seen cops pull over people running red lights. The way it is people rush or think they are in a rush here, but they don't think at all. Worst thing too is most of the people that do get caught running red lights don't have a driver's license and no insurance. It gets worse and worse all the time.

Running red lights has gone down where I live. The police started using all sorts of red light cameras to catch them and make money for the department. It's kind of a shake down. Anyway, now we have people breaking hard at yellow lights.

Many people in this society are stressed out. Too much work, too many bills, not enough job security, a society flooded with technology, noise, noise, noise.... Yes, more people are running red lights. They are in a hurry (to get nowhere), and it really doesn't matter if there is a red light in their way. In fact, they may not even register the fact that the light is red.
