Automated Office....

So we have automated teller machines instead of bank tellers, self-check out lanes instead of cashiers, etc. Now technology is the new threat to receptionists at Doctor's offices. This morning on the news they reported that there are machines (like Atms) in a few doctor's offices to schedule appointments, take co-payments, and some even handle medication information. Now I am all for the use and advance of technology, but I cannot help but think that one this is very dangerous. It is not like going to Wal-mart and the wrong price being scanned....this is your health. And machines do make errors, and have kinks in the system....and how much personal information will be stored in there....and people love to steal medical files. Call me a skeptic. But I do not even use the self-check outs at stores because it takes people's jobs away, if there is an error it takes longer to fix, and I would much rather deal with a person to clear up mistakes..... What do you think about all this technology now mixing with the medical field?

As long as a robot doesn't give me a shot I'm fine with it. Plus, people who work in medical offices are probably getting tired of getting yelled at or worse, threatened. Technology is fine but when it breaks down they are going to send Wall-E to fix it, they will send a human, with skin. So instead of dragging your feet to the technology dance why not get an education in it, those are the jobs of the future.

What I like most about our primary care doctor is that we know all the girls in the office, that our doctor calls us on sight by our names, and it is a friendly atmosphere to go to when someone is ill. He is mall enough that we feel apart of the "family". I do not think I could ever go to PCP that was so big his office was automated.

I am generally opposed to replacing people with machines, but when I think about my doctor's office, the machines might be an improvement! Maybe a machine would actually be able to schedule appointments correctly so that there is not always an hour (or often longer) wait for a simple 5 minute appointment.
