What does the star with the number in it next to your name mean?

My star was white, I think, with a 7. Now it is purple with a 4. Is it bad that it went down? What does this star represent? Thank you!

It's a 'medal' style thing for your current reputation on Mylot. If you hover your mouse pointer over it, it'll show the exact percentile figure. I think the major influence on it is ratings on your posts, so someone must have been marking you down at some point. http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx explains it better than I could.

Wow thanks so much, It must have been from one of my answers I typed up yesterday, I think it was just too long that nobody really cared for it, that's the only thing that changed since the 7. Oh well, such is life. :(

If it is only the one answer, the good news is it's fairly easy to get back up. I think mine was down to 5 or 6 a few days back, and it's soon recovered.
