For a long time now I've loved all things made from ginger, and I especially loved ginger tea. Every so often I go to China Town to buy it in boxes and it's so nice and strong, it knocks your socks off! Well, I recently saw some ginger root at the supermarket and I thought I wonder if I can make it myself? So I just cut off some of the bark, grated some ginger into a cup and added hot water, and that's all there is too it!! Tastes yummy, and I can control how strong I have it by adding different amounts! I hadn't realise it would taste so good like this, and didn't know if there was anything else involved in making it. In fact, I think the tea I buy has some kind of added sugar in it, but I can also do that myself if I want to. And I can make lots of cups of tea from little bit of root, and all it cost me was 14 pence (28 cents)! Has this happened to you? Have you been buying a certain food or drink for a long time and then realised that you can make it much more cheaply yourself?

Congrats on your little discovery. It is interesting that it is ginger tea of all things because just last night I wrote about making ginger tea to help cure a sore throat, on another website. You just do exactly what you did except you boil it for about 10 mins, let it sit for five more than strain it into your cup and IF you feel like it add a spoonful of honey. Very good home remedy! Hmm...now for the question. Well I think my answer has got to be fast food. I can cook very good and tend to make fast food at home as well and it always costs me cheaper. Then there is peanut butter bars, I can make a whole dish easy but Reese's cup or mini cups are quite expensive and I don't even pay as much for all the ingredients I used to make it. Can't really think of anything else at the moment but I am glad you found yourself a good deal

Thanks a lot for your post roxanne, it's interesting that ginger tea helps cure a sore throat, and it's nice to know how to make it properly, I'm going to try making it that way now in fact! I'm very impressed that you can make your own fast food. It's a real feat to make it taste as good as it does from the fast food outlets (and probably at a much cheaper cost). Yum, I love peanut butter, and I'd really like to try your peanut butter bars!! I agree, the Reese's stuff is really expensive here too. You've actually inspired me to look up some peanut butter recipes! Right, back to the ginger for now...
