Is he really my friend?

Hi guys, need a bit of advice here. I have a friend, I cant tell if he wants to be my m8 or not. Hes hard to perdict. Recently I have quit my job and he has an ok job. Every time i see him he indirectly insults me about me not having a job. Basically I think he thinks he is better than me because of this. What should I say to him, or should I just not be friends with him anymore? Cheers
