Do Good Things Come to Those Who Wait?

We've heard that they serve also those who sit and wait and that good things come to those who wait. Is it true? Do good things come to those who wait or is this just another way of saying that patience is a virtue?

While we need to have patience, and recognize that success in whatever we are doing takes time, we must not fall into the trap of waiting around for good things to just magically happen. We must be pro-active.

I guess that's the right attitude and most of those who responded so far do agree with that.

I believe in the "what goes around comes around". There are many things that will never happen if you don't go out and make them happen. And then again, there are some things that are out of your control. Take cancer for example. I could go and get every treatment offered and it may or may not cure my cancer. Whatever my fate is (and I hate to put it this way because I lost my grandmother two years ago to cancer) that's what is going to happen. I don't understand and don't accept it that well, but if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. But there are things that I believe happen when a person is patient and lets fate take it's course. I was told that I would probably never have children and I am now four months pregnant. That my friends is fate and a true miracle.

You're saying that both good things or bad things can happen even if you don't do anything or even if you exert all efforts to make something happen because there are things beyond our control. Yes that's true because we really never can tell what will happen in our lives. There are times when we do everything in our power to make something become reality but nothing happens and there are times when we don't lift a finger and evrything we wanted to have, happens. But i think more often than not, those who go out and try to make things happen have obtained or received more than those who wait and wait only. I'm happy for the miracle in your life and here's wishing you and your baby good health

I don't see good things coming to those who wait. I think a person should go out and make good things happen, not sit around waiting. I don't know where that saying came from but I don't believe it and I think it's stupid!

Yes it seems a little bit stupid or illogical since it encourages being lazy hoping something good will come along. It goes against what we have learned that in this world, you must have to act to attain your dreams and if you just sit around and wait the world will pass you by.

Maybe, maybe not. Entirely depends on any given situation. If it means waiting on the line before your turns come up. That I can follow. But if you mean about life waiting for a miracle. That is the wrong philosopy in life. You must be in constant move to succed. Because if you wait on somebody to help you or some good things to happen in your life with out exerting any real effort. Think again. That may never happen. Life is a constant change. A constant challenge.

That's a good viewpoint. To understand it in the sense that even those who wait patiently at the end of a line can expect to be served too (good things come) but not to mean that you can patiently wait your whole life for a miracle to happen. If we want to have good things come to us, we must work for them . As they say "Help yourself and God will Help You".

i also think it means patience is a virtue. and i can't belittle patience as a virtue, but on the other hand, i think more good things come to those who actively seek and work for the good things in life.

Patience is indeed a virtue but i don't know how long we are suppose to wait before we realize we're being left behind. In such a case would our patience be a virtue or a vice?
