This is a shot of one of the few Ivy plants I have in my house. This was started from a cutting off of an Ivy plant growing in Minneapolis at a huge sidewalk pot. I cut a small sprig of maybe 3 inches many, many years ago. I would say maybe 20 years ago is when I got this. This was an outdoor pot and had many annuals like Ivy etc. it all dies off late fall so it would have not been there in October as it would have died. So by cutting a sprig and growing it I think I saved a piece of Earth in a sense. Anyhow, now this thing is soooo long. It must be about 20 feet long or maybe even more. It starts in the pot on top of the entertainment center then to the right and back across to the left all the way down to nearly the floor. Do you have any Ivy indoors? How long and how old is it? Have you ever "stolen" a clipping from an outdoor plant at all for this purpose?

My mother was always so good with ivy. She had a beautiful one that had some runners that were also very long, not 20 feet but pretty close to it. Right now I just have a tiny piece of ivy on the patio and when I say on the patio I mean ON the patio floor. It is growing good but need to get a pot and pot it.

Whenever I am at a public place or in an office and find the plants to my liking, I will ask for a few cuttings to bring home with me. That is how most of my houseplants started out.

A lot of my plants and berries and flowers were given to me by neighbors or friends as well. The only flowers i bought basically are the Lilies, Beebalm, Seedums, and Astillibes. Most others were gifts or cuttings etc.

Your ivy appears to be quite happy in its location. You have such a green thumb grandpa, I'm envious! I love to get cuttings from everyone's houseplants and try to grow them at my house. My grandmother used to say that one should never thank someone for a cutting, as to do so would cause the cutting not to grow! Have you ever heard that? Whenever I am at someone's house I check out their houseplants to see if there are any that I would like a cutting from. I recently got a few pieces of something called 'burrows tail'....it is a member of the succulent family. The owner swore that if I just 'jabbed' them in the soil that they would grow. I brought them home and 'jabbed' them in the soil....we'll see!

Hi GRANDPA BOB! We do have Ivy plants clinging all over our cemented fence and it really looks so cool. My husband had some wires placed on top of the fence and that is where the ivy grew. However, we do not have Ivy indoors.
Take care and God bless!

You must have a green thumb to be able to grow all the things you grow. I have an ivy plant but its not doing so good, I've had it awhile and its poorly looking. It isn't very long and it hasn't grown much in the past few years I've had it. We've fertilized it, I water it often, we've moved it around the house, to where its sunny, by the window, then we moved it where its darker, and cooler and still nothing works. The other day my mom watered it with sugar water, she said thats what she does to her plants, and her plants always look good. So do you have any suggestions as to what we could do? How do you take care of yours? and no I haven't ever stolen a clipping from an outdoor plant..lol. Have a good day

It is lovely, my Grandmother use to get clippings from EVERYWHERE if she had been there she had a plant from it! I didn't think much about it when i was a kid i just took it for granted that to grow a plant all you had to do was get a clipping and poof you had a plant, the woman could grow anything, i did not inherit that skill, my cousin did.
