No WMD?

If Hussein had no WMD, then how come 550 metric tons of the late Saddam Hussein's "yellowcake" uranium was just transported out of Iraq? 550 metric tons is a lot of "no WMD" to have lying around. What do you bet me it had "Made in Niger" stamped somewhere near the "inspected by #57" tag in the pocket... Double or nothing if "inspector #57" was Ol' Joe "I lied through my teeth" Wilson himself. http://news.yahoo.com/s/a...

The 'yellowcake' you mention dates way back. I think even to the orginal Iraqi nuclear program the Israelis destroyed with an air raid in the 80's. There is no doubt Saddam kept this valuable commodity he could have sold for a lot of money because he was patiently waiting for a chance to restart his nuclear weapons developement program.

True, but that doesn't change the fact that there was hundreds of tons of yellowcake in Iraq while the Useless UN and the even more useless UNSCOM was swearing there wasn't.

Correct, the point being everyone in the intelligence business knew about this. Why was there all the fuss? Something very funny is going on.

ParaTed, The link didn't work for me but I am going to add one of my own that probably relates the same story just in case it doesn't work for other people. http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=300323577877918 What is really interesting to me is how all of the anti-Bush naysayers are going to react to their largest arsenal of Bush attack weapons being decimated! You see, he actually DIDN'T lie about WMD's now did he? Boy, now that's got to hurt all of these Bush bashers feelings! IMO I believe Bush TOOK THE HEAT in order to preserve the secrecy of the huge amount of dangerous materiel inside Iraq that if it had fallen into the wrong hands could have been a nightmare! Bush KNEW that he was going to be bashed but also knew he couldn't release any news of this for fear of terrorists trying to get their hands on it! Bush took the high road and was deemed an incompetent president for it and ALL of you Bush bashers need to take a REAL good look at GWB because there is the epitomy of a hero!! He took one for the team and we have had lesser presidents in the past that would not have done that! (no names will be mentioned)

They will bury their heads in the sand and act like this never happened. Just like they did when it turned out Richard Armitage was the "leaker" and Joe Wilson and Valarie Plame were exposed as liars.

This story has been out for days now and while the news articles are available, I'm still not seeing this covered in any major way. Has anyone else here noticed that the major networks are keeping this on the down-low? It's like they really hate Bush so much that they don't want anyone to realize that he may have actually been acting on "real" intel and that we actually found the evidence a long time ago and simply couldn't tell everyone because of the dangers involved. Can you imagine what would have happened if the terrorists knew about this find years ago? They would have banded together and focused all their attacks on that location instead of the random attacks and car bombs. There's no way we could have kept it out of terrorist hands if they'd known about it then. I would love to see Obama or McCain discuss this find and what it means for the current war in Iraq.

Yes - he had this from years before from when WE were helping him make WMDs. This stuff way pre-dated the stuff he never tried to get from Nigeria and can only be converted for nuclear weapons with sophisticated technology - as I understand it, they didn't have that degree of equipment available to them.

But it WAS in Iraq when the Useless UN and UNSCOM said there wasn't any. Also, Joe Wilson lied about the Niger yellowcake situation. Niger actually told him that Hussein WAS trying to get them to sell yellowcake uranium to him.

I don't think this was a legit find there to begin with. My s/o was in Communications in th 'Nam era and it's kind of like he said. Quote - "America has planes that can basically see inside your home, detect most anything and if this was there, they would have known this a long time ago" I totally agree. Bush needed at least some little something "proved" out of this blunder of a war and financial crisis he has put America in, that's all.

Thanks, I was just waiting for some random Bush hater to claim this was fake. If America has planes like those you describe, then why did it take so long to find Sadaam? Why couldn't they find Osama when they practically had him surrounded in Afghanistan? If they had these during the 'Nam era, how is it that our military was so completely lost and got defeated there? If all these things were hidden from your superplanes, then why would it be so hard to believe that the yellowcake uranium was hidden as well? Can these planes penetrate a mountainside or a lead shielded bunker?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080706/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_yellowcake_mission The link didn't work, but I was able to find the refresh. Hopefully it stays up this time. On to topic, this find is from the older nuclear projects as mentioned, but that doesn't change the possession or the find itself. And I have to bring up a curiosity of mine with this topic. Any materials unaccounted for?

In fairness, Bush was yes and no. There have been a lot of incidences where WMD caches were found, but none to the extent that Prs. Bush cited when making the case for war with Hussein. Hussein apparently had WMD and may have used them in 1991, in fact a lot of the 1990 Coalition nations have acknowledged attacks on their troops by Hussein in 91, and are paying and treating their vets accordingly. Basically Bush's conclusions were both right and wrong back in 2002.
