What I have found from my experiences is that serious discussions rarely attracts the attention of mylotians . The reasons behind this is that everybody is after quantity i.e, number of responses and posts . They are not interested to waste time to go deep into the matters .

Akumei, I feel that way too. However, there are some serious discussions that I have seen and they tend to have more responses than others. I, personally, respond to both serious and not so serious discussions. I don't answer discussions when people only give one response (for example, What is your internet homepage?). That is just something that is silly and people are only looking out for themselves. I do answer things that are happy, sad, news related, real life, friends, family, etc. related. I think that people should really take the time to think about what they are posting and responding to. Also, I know personally, I don't always want a serious discussion. Turn on the news and everything is serious. Read the newspaper and everything is serious. I think that a fun, happy discussion helps people take their minds off of those deeper matters that are going on in their own lives. But I do think that people need to be serious about what they are posting. Meaning don't just ask a one-liner....that's worse than being picked up in a bar with a one-liner. But ask something that everyone can give their opinions to and have both sides of the fence looked at instead of just a one word response for the answer to a discussion. Thanks for the post :D

I think you have a valid point here. Many people do respond to serious discussions and take time to give reasoned opinions but i noticed the 'what's your favourite...' type get loads. I tested my theory by starting discussions on, what I consider to be, fairly trivial matters - like shoes and chocolate and they did indeed attract more opinions.

It has been hought that my husad's account got DELETED because he started way too many serious discussions. My husband is a genius, and I hate to think that he has been puished for his intellegence. Sadly, hat's just how it seems to be here on MyLot, and he and I don't like it one little bit!!!

I would much rather respond to a more serious discussion than to one which asked what I like best or something very simple. I don't usually respond to one line posts or to any discussion which can only be answered in a few lines. I do look for discussions on less simple topics. I think a good discussion which has a few long responses can earn as much as a discussion with a lot of very short responses. Some people don't understand that myLot rewards us for quality not quantity. I don't mind if I start a new discussion and it only gets a few responses, if those responses are interesting and each one is more than just two or three lines.

It's really kind of disappointing to say the least, but very true. I am finding that even though I put "serious" discussion on my discussion, it's just disregarded. It's very discouraging!
