What do you do with your empty ink cartridges?

Do you refill them or do you just throw them away and go buy new ones? Do you recyle them or turn them in for cash? I donate mine to PetSmart Charities. I get these pre-paid mailers from the store and just stick them in there and mail them. Petsmart Charities recycle them and use the money for homeless pets, etc. If you're interested in this program you can go to: http://www.petsmartcharities.org/index.php to find out more information about it. Have a nice evening, Char :-)

Didn't know Petsmart did that. I normally take mine to the local walgreens and have it refilled.

Hi and Welcome to MyLot! I learned that Petsmart did that about a year ago and started turning them in there since then. I did hear that Walgreens has a refilling program that they started recently. I have tried other refill places and the cartridges just don't seem to work as well as the new ones. I hope you have better luck. Have a nice evening and I hope you get to love MyLot as much as I do! Char :-)

Well, I work for walgreens...and mine refills the cartridges. So its convenient. Not to mention cheaper. My black cartridge costs like 50 dollars to buy new, but 10 to refill.

Check with organizations around like churches, community theaters, etc. Many of them collect empties and "recycle" them for $2-3 each. My church's children department raises a couple hundred dollars a month this way that is used to support children in an orphange school in Honduras. (A couple from our church runs the school). Do something good for someone - especially as it won't cost you anything.

Thanks for your response! Like I said in my post, I send mine in prepaid envelopes to Petsmart Charities. I feel as long as you are not just throwing them away and giving them to a good cause, that is all that matters. They get money for recycling them and it doesn't cost you a penny. Have a great day! Oh I wish we had something like Petsmart here in Australia I would give them all of mine, we do have places that you can take them to but they are not anumal societies which I prefer to support, but I do recycle which I think everyone should do it they can..

Thanks for your response. I really didn't know if Petsmart was world wide or just in the US or not. lol It is a good thing to recycle too. I just hate to see them just thrown away. Have a good evening, Char :-)

We normally just throw ours out, since I don't know of anyplace in my area that does it... I've always wondered, though, what they can actually do with them to make money. So they recycle them for parts, but what in them is valuable? I haven't really studied my ink cartridges...

Thanks for your response and Welcome to MyLot! You know, you've got a point. lol I know they recycle them or turn them into a recycling center for money but I have no clue either what is actually recyclable in an ink cartridge..Unless recycling is just refilling them???? Have a good evening, Char :-)

That's a really good idea. Most of my ink cartridges come from my work computer and we take the cartridges to Office Max where they give you free copy paper or money off your purchase ($3 I think per cartridge.) Sometimes they change around what you can get and since I'm not usually the one who turns them in, I could be wrong about the specifics. Thanks for the great idea though, I'll have to check into it...

Hi and Welcome to MyLot, Sure, I understand, you have no control of where your ink cartridges go at work. Office Max does have a really good deal there giving money off your purchase. Can't beat that!! If you happen to have a printer at home and can donate them to Petsmart Charities, that would be great though. Have a nice evening and I hope you get to love MyLot as much as I do! Char :-) P.S. I really like your avatar :-)
