well love should exist in all relationships. it doesn't matter if it's love between parent and child, brother and sister or friends. it is still love to me. however, romantic love is a totally different thing, at least to me. i'm an idealist, so my loved one should be able to make my fingers tingle when he touches me. i'd miss him when he is not by my side and my heart beats faster when i see him. that's romantic love to me. ;p

Friendship is a an affection arising from mutual esteem and good will. It is a state of being friends, an association with someone who you feel have the same traits and interests like yours.
Love, on the other hand is a passionate affection for someone. The meaning of passion here encompass sexuality and desire. It is an intensely amorous incident. It is more special and more personal. Love is a deep and enduring emotional regard. Meaning, you are very serious with your feelings of affection and tends to inclined in different emotions.
For more clarifications of these two concepts, read the following comparisons:
Friendship is a quiet walk in the park with the one you trust;
Love is when you feel like you are the only two around.
Friendship is when they gaze in your eyes and you know they care;
Love is when they gaze into your eyes and it warms your heart.
Friendship is being close even when you are far apart;
Love is when you can still feel their hand on your heart when they are not near.
Friendship is hoping that they experience the very best;
Love is when you bring them the very best.
Friendship is knowing that you will always try to be there when in need;
Love is when you will give up everything to be at their side.
Friendship occupies your mind;
Love occupies your soul.
Friendship is a warm smile in the winter;
Love is warming touch that sends a pulse to your heart.
Friendship can survive without love;
Love cannot live without friendship.

The difference between friendship and love is not really that complex. When you said friends, that is someone to talk to, to laugh and enjoy each others company.
When you said love, it also combined all i've mentioned above. But the big difference is there's no intimacy with friends. While in love needs intimacy, such as kissing ,cuddling and etc.
