northern rock redemption fees

i recently split up with my partner yet am only 2 years in on a five year fixed rate mortgage. with the current housing crunch, we have already dropped our flat by £20,000 but unfortunately cant drop it anymore otherwise we wont be able to afford the £6500 redemption fee and estate agent fees etc. i rang northern rock up to see if they could help, i explained that its not that i dont want to pay but cant drop the flat price anymore. I also explained that i would be happy to pay £4000 as a full and final settlement on the fee, but was told basically to go jump and that they would take me to court if i didnt pay the full amount. never have i come across such an unhelpful company. i was hoping that someone out there could offer me some advice on how to dodge some of the fee? thank louisej25
