I believe almost everyone that uses computer should have antivirus installed on the system. So, which antivirus (freeware or commercial) is the best? Do we have to spend on commercial product, or a free antivirus can handle your needs? I personally use a free local Indonesian antivirus called PC Media Antivirus, as it is very effective protecting my system against local viruses (which are dangerously attacking my computer like crazy). The antivirus can also be combined with ClamAv database, so the protection will be 2x powerful. Please Google if you are interested as it is in English... Please leave your thoughts here to improve my knowledge... Any specific or technical explanation will do!

The commercial antivirus ofcourse is better and more updates, but if you are personal home user with no server activity in your computer, freeware is just fine. It is stupid to buy expensive antivirus products for only personal surfing. It is different if you own business and do lots of stuff with computer and don't want anyone to mess up with your important files stored in your computer. Or if you have a webserver hosted in your computer. I myself use Avast as antivirus program and it works perfectly fine. I love it. But i can say one thing. Never leave your computer unprotected. If you are unprotected you will get attacked by viruses even if you are surfing only on sites which you completely trust. Always have some kind of antivirus program. Always.

True, my friend. I should admit that I do not really strengthen my Windows PC that much, as I've known how to avoid viruses or trojans. But at least I will install one antivirus (like I mentioned above) and one firewall. As for Linux, I leave it unprotected as I never experience such trouble with virus or trojan in there.

I use Avast free antivirus. In my experience it has been much more effective than AVG. It also offers more protection against malware when AVG only protects against viruses. Avast's best feature is the boot scanner, which will scan your computer before Windows starts and viruses load.

Yes, its scanner and virus recognition is good. I may as well try that one. But I wonder what is the difference between the free version and the commercial one. Perhaps the commercial version has firewall built in on it.

well, im one of those people who elieve that nothing of use is free and everything always costs at least what its worth, not one penny less. With this in mind, if its free it will hardly be as good as something you pay for. If a company could get you to pay for it, they would blessed be

Yes, I believe so. My friend told me that Norton 360 is good, but won't it slow my computer down like the other Norton applications? Perhaps I'd try it for my laptop then... Thank you very much for the recommendation!

Yes, Norton will slow your system to a crawl. It is rated pretty high in effectiveness, but if it's going to cripple my computer, I might as well let viruses have their way with me anyway.

AVG has some problem also because it cannot detect some of the trojan or hidden rookit...the function for automatic scan for file when u open is famous for all popular antivirus. This didn't shows that AVG is better than the others.

I use McAffee (free antivirus). It works just fine with me and detects viruses easily.

Ofcourse Commercial Antivirus software will be much better and secure than Freeware... I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition...with automatic daily updates, realtime protection system, firewall, anti-spyware, internet protection, file protection, email protection... and on and on... It has so may features.. I tried so many antivirus softwares like AVG, Norton Antivirus, Kaspersky, Avast... But still virus used to ruin my computer system... Now i stick with NOD32 and it detects all the viruse/worms/trojans etc before i start scanning... NOD32 Rocks!!....^_^

I have used Norton and Symantec and other paid versions of antivirus, but my favorite is AVG free, which I have now. With the others - the paid versions - I always had trouble. I've never had any trouble with the AVG free and would recommend it to anyone.

My PC was infected with viruses a few times. I used the free version of AVG and it really slows down the PC. Recently I was slow in installing antivirus and my PC was infected with 7 viruses. I have to sent it for repair and now my PC is installed with symantec. I am still new to antivirus product and I have not decided which is the best antivrus product. My PC repairman told me that the free version brings virus easily and that is why I now prefer commercial antivirus products.

the best antivirus is the only one which does the basic job meaning it romves viruses from your system so whether it be commercial or freeware or registered or unregistered it does not have any connection so in my view the best anti virus of all times is nod 32 and avast used only for small viruses whereas nod 32is used for big or complex viruses so it does not makes a big diferrrence about being registered or unregisteerd add me as a friend and i will u send nod 32 latest and feel the difereence in your system

IT doesn't really mater what you use, commercial or freeware, they all do the same thing, or not. I had Norton. Got hacked. Switched to McAfee, got hacked. I am now with freeware Avast and so far ok.

If u want the best free antivirus just use nod32.This is the best antivirus because it won slow down your pc and have very high detective against virus and trojan(but no include spyware).but nod32 need register key,u can find it at some server juz seaching in the internet. This register key usually only have one day limit only.So you have to seach the key again every time u want to update the virus vault. But don be disappointed because the key will refresh everyday and u will sure to find out one to use.If you want to find a good Spyware detecter just search Kingspy internet. This solfware is from china and it have come with its own firewall. The firewall will not lag will the others and it also wont slow down your pc.The other reason is it will check the pc safety percentage to you and help you to protect your pc better. And sure,it is all free!If u want the best antivirus with charge some money try bitdefender.the others like karpersky,f-secue,norton is not so good because they will slow down your pc,but if your pc ram is above than 2.5G,juz go ahead!

Hi there , yes every computer should really have the full internet security which constists of : Antivirus, Antispyware, Firewall, Spam Filter etc ec.... Commercial is obviously the best, I dont like to use freeware products as commercial are alot better, I personally prefer MCAFEE full internet security as it is easy to use , its a good product and its easy to configure, eg open ports etc. However I am currently using Norton 360 which is good i think, I prefer Mcafee but i have swapped as i have upgraded to Windows Vista which mcafee doesnt work on for me :(. Get mcafee. Cheers
