Hello there. I am pretty new to the Civil War Reenacting scene. I fell in love with the smell of gunsmoke, the roar of the musket, and, well, everything about it. I was lucky enough to attend the 145th reenactment of Gettysburg and was totally floored by the sheer numbers of people there. I can't wait for my next event. Are there any other reenactors out there on MyLot?

I'm not part of any reenactments but here where I live there are quite a few every year. From the revolutionary war to the civil war. It is so interesting to learn how people lived back then and what they ate and lived in the camps. It is a good way to learn the history of our country. I'll bet it was awesome to be part of the Gettysburg reenactment. I understand that those that do the Gettysburg were thrilled when Hollywood wanted to use them for the movie because for the first time they could go all out with the cannons because normally they couldn't afford to use the cannons like that. My family has learned a lot from reenactors.

It was amazing. Everyone there was excited about the film and just participating in the battles. My boyfriend portrays an Union soldier. After each battle, he would have this huge grin on his face. Reenacting is a wonderful learning experience. I've found out something that was not told in the history books when I went to high school. Women played a rather large role in the war, helping to keep the supplies moving as well as tending the wounded. I'm currently reading the book "Civil War Sisterhood" by Judith Ann Giesberg.

Can't tell you how jealous I am! I am a woman therefore my participation is limited to dressing in hoop skirts and portraying a nurse. What I really want to do is be part of the infantry. You got to do Gettysburg!!! That would be the ultimate for me! I attend as many reenactments as possible but have never been able to manage time off for gettysburg. Someday. Are you by chance a fan of the movie? Probably have seen it 20 times and it always moves me to tears! My great great grandfather was a part of Picketts Charge and was captured on second day. I went there and stood a the aproximate spot where they were stopped in there advance and had chills! Sorry to ramble, but I rarely have a chance to talk to other people. Most think since I'm a woman its kinda strange!
