Are you afraid to fly?

I will be flying soon, in another month or so. As some of you know, I am a recent addict of the tv show, Lost, where a flight crashes on a deserted island off the grid.. and of course we discover it is not quite 'deserted'.
Are you afraid to fly? Despite technological advances and the safety protocols in place, it's true that you're walking into a tube of metal that manages to get airborne. I am not afraid, never have been, but I have met so many people who are white knuckled fliers, or refuse to fly frequently, or fly at all.
I'm actually looking forward to my trip, I like traveling. Alone, with other people, it doesn't matter, I am very much one of those people who takes into account the journey as well as the destination. I want to enjoy it, get the most out of it, and treasure every moment.
What's your take? If you don't fly due to fear, do you replace it with something else such as a road trip, a train, a bus? If you don't travel now at all due to increasing costs, what did you use to enjoy?

It is 20 years since I last boarded and flew on a plane, I loved it. Then I left home and paid for holidays by my parents were over! Then I started having nightmares about plane crashes, they were very graphic and the images still linger with me 15 years on. I convinced myself that the dreams were a warning to me somehow about flying, and I swore I would never go on a plane again.
And I have been clever, I have managed to get out of going on a plane for years, using the not enough money excuse. But for the last two years the summers in UK have been appalling and I now know that I would like to go abroad for some sun so we are planning to go next year. I am unsure how I feel, I think about it and my stomach knots, and I feel sick.

I like to travel but flying makes me kind of nervous. Since I've never flown though, ever in my life I think it makes pretty good sense to me why I'm nervous about it. It's something that I've never done before.

i am scared to fly but i have.. i have always been scared of it though.. i will not fly over the ocean at all though.. i keep thinking about those airplane movies where one was sinking in the ocean
