Cheating the system?

Library toilet - Would you cheat the system? Would it feel like cheating to you or do you think it's ok because you pay for opening the door, not for just one person?
You pay for opening a door to two toilets, right?? Or not...?

I went to the library today and you had to pay 10 euro cents to go to the bathroom. It's allways very clean in there so I don't mind paying a little for it, allthough I do believe it should be a free service in most cases. However, like I said it's cleaned very well and libraries don't make the most money in this society and they do a good job in getting us educated and giving us the pleasure to read tons of books for a small fee. For a student it's even more important as it can save you a ton on textbooks for college if you only need like one chapter. Now the way this works is that you put 10 cents in a special thingy at the door and after that you can open it once and you go into a small room with a sink and two seperate doors with toiletseats behind them. I've seen people holding the door open for another person (their partner or just the person behind them). Would you or would you not do this? It feels like cheating the system. If you would go to the toilet elsewhere it costs at least 50 cents, the toilets aren't clean most of the time and you pay as little as 30 euros a year to rent books for free (15 and can keep them up to three weeks). Don't they provide you with enough allready? I think I would feel akward to say no to my partner when he holds the door open for me but on the other hand I don't agree on it. What would you do?

Hi Most places here in the UK we don't have to pay and if in a public toilet where we did have to pay I would hold a door for a mate, in a library though I would probably be by myself and just pay anyway, they do do an extremely good service even provinding free internet facililty so it is a small price to pay. Ellie :D

I agree that a library is a great facility to have and that's why I feel the same way. I guess it is true that a lot of Dutch people are greedy as I haven't discovered another country yet where you have to pay for the toilet except for Belgium ;) (and that's around the corner). Thanks for adding to the discussion!

There isn't anything else you have to pay for but there are a lot of locations including shops and bars where you have to pay for the restroom, it's pretty common here and they can charge pretty much. I allways go to the toilet before I leave home but this time I was in a hurry and I couldn't keep it in any longer so I decided to use the one at the library. Good to hear that you haven't got this in your country, I hate paying for the toilet Take care!
