Strange eating behavior

I have had dogs my whole life and when it comes to feeding time they are very excited, you put the bowl down and they gobble away. I now have a black lab (who is a mommas boy) and when I put the bowl down and walk away he follows me. He will not eat unless I watch him. Even if I am in the room and my husband feeds him he will walk away with my husband; it's like who ever feeds him has to watch him eat. I have never seen a dog do this, does anyone elses dog need this attention?

How is he? We have a 4 month old chocolate lab and he does the same thing. He is getting better. We just started walking off and left his food there. He is not going to starve just because your not watching him. But as he gets older he is starting to do the jumping thing and then dig in.

I don't know how old he is, he was a stray. I would say he is 2 and we had him for a year.We do walk away and the food will just sit there until we return. I'll let you know how it turns out. We are going on vacation and our friends are dog sitting and she was freaked out that she had to watch the dog eat; I'll have to see if he does it to them.
