Over the weekend I had relatives spending time here sleeping overnight. They returned from the Valleyfair Amusement Park late at night and it was pitch black outside. My niece wanted to check out my garden so I grabbed a flashlight taking her and her kids out back into my garden. Well once the light shone on the strawberries my 5 year old grand-neice smiled saying, "Ohhhh Uncle Bob you have strawberries." I said, "Go ahead and pick then honey." She then saw big ones and small onse saying, "big one, littele one, big one little one." over and over and not picking any. I smiled, "Pick them all honey." Then she went on a rampage picking almost all the red strawberries. then her mom, muy neice hit the tomatoes. Well I don't have any red ones left niow. It was a fun time sharing with family that lives a few hundred miles away though. Did you have any out of towen visitors? Do you share any of your garden with family that lives a distance from you? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I don't really have a garden worth sharing. No green thumb here but luckily my grandma shares hers with me. Her thumb is all shades of green so I can get some fresh veggies and some pretty flowers any time I want. :)

It sounds like you are as great a Uncle as you are a Grandpa and a dad not to mention a friend. There are some people who would not allow anyone much less kids pick things in their gardens. I love watching kids admire the small things in life.

I wish my little garden was fruitful enough to share! I'm still waiting on my first ripe tomato! I do have one that is looking pretty good and filling out. My daughter planted some cherry tomatoes at the house and she has picked a couple of those. The bell peppers are growing and should be reading in another week--two at max. It's fun to watch the garden grow, but I'm ready to eat some of the produce too! Glad to hear your garden is doing so well!

So for pickles Grandpa, it is ideal to wait until it is ripe? I have not tried that since in my Country, i always eat it fresh! I love the idea..Since, I can catch up eating all our harvest..LOL! I am the only one who loves it..LOL!

We live out in the yonder so to speak so we would have a garden if the raccoons ( I can not say that word with out the ra on mylot) and deer and other various animals did not eat them. I would share, lol, but there is none for us to eat! It's very nice of you to let your family pick food from your garden.

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is nothing dirty about that word. I can't think of any innuendo's that would cause C--N to be nasty.

Oh how sweet! It must be nice to have something in the garden to share with family! We moved in late May and got our garden in quite late at the new house so there is nothing to pick as yet! I would love to have some family to visit us and perhaps we will soon. My oldest son visited soon after we moved in when we were still living out of boxes. Perhaps the next time he visits it will be more enjoyable for him. In the past we have always had quite a bountiful garden and I take bags of extras to work and give it away. I hope to be able to do that soon with our new garden at our new house.

Well, I don't have a garden to share from. My in-laws always have a large garden and share with us. I saw them on Friday since my son was going to visit with them and the brought cucumbers, yellow sqaush and zucchinni. There were more cucumbers than I thought my family would eat in a few weeks, so I shared with the ladies at work. Plan to have the sqaush for dinner tonight.

you are the coolest uncle bob. I go to my uncles house in vermont once in a great while...not ofen enough according to him. my girls and I...well it is always a good experience. He treats us like royalty. His veges are home grown and he makes his own butter...his meat is from local farms...growing up the meat came from his own farm. the food is all organic and oh so good. berrys and fruit....the kids just go wild.

Hi Grandpa Bob, That was awfully nice of you to share your bounty with family members. Makes you feel so good too. I like to share my bounty with family as well. They don't even have to come from any distance. If I have, then I will share. It's the thing to do, especially with family, and friends. Have a nice day..

That is very cool!!! Where we live it is hard to maintain a garden so plant in pots as much as possible. Right now we are trying to grow tomatoes...in the past the kids would love to pick and eat them. Great experience for children. You're a good Uncle.

AAAWWWW that is so cute! I am sure they had a great time and enjoyed sharing your bounty! Our strawberries are great plants but they do not produce hardly any berries. Don't know why. Our bluberry bushes are growing right along. Next year I predict we will have loads of blueberries. Our tomatoes are still producing for us too.

My garden is not that big, but if I get enough tomatoes before the bugs get to them Yes I share my garden veggies with my sisters and my neighbors. But I make sure that I have some for myself first.

Grandpa Bob--- may I come over and pick too? I'll wait for them to ripen first of course! My tomatoes are Green and small! My brother and his family come home each year and he raids my garden. He is living on base and they have no garden. I don't mind sharing. Other than that- nope no family comes and picks that don't live near- My mom picks from mine all the time -- but she lives about 4 miles! lol

I plan to have a nice garden next year and will share it with my family when they visit from Arizona and Florida. My two little tomato plants are getting very tall! That's all I have to boast about this year.

hi grandpa bob there is nothing like little kids seeing real fruit growing and getting to pick it too, I bet'tehy did have a ball. from the time I could remember I was always with my mom when she picked the strawberries or tomatoes or other produce while I watched. she told me that I was just a baby when they grew some peanuts. All the while she was digging up the peanuts I was replanting them. she was fit to be tied when she saw all her hard work all undone while I had replanted all her peanuts. I got the impression she was not to happy with me. I know that I was quite young when they let me pick strawberries, and tomatoes and green beans, and I did a good job too probably from watching the adults.we always had so much produce we shared with friends and neigbors and some townspeople would come out to our farm and buy our produce, specailly the apples.lol
