It might have helped if I had remembered to include the picture of the flowers I was asking about, so, here is a picture of the bloom on the hanging basket, if anyone can tell me what it is.

It is a Fuschia. They are native to South and Central America and New Zealand. It was named in 1703 after German botanist Leonhard Fuchs.

These are common gifts for Minnesota during the Summer. They don;t thrive well in our cold not even indoors during the winter unless pruned way back etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Deebomb is correct. Here's a link to help ya out with care. http://www.weidners.com/fuchsia.html Planting :- use a good quality compost this does make a difference, no need for water retention granules or slow release fertiliser. For the centre / back piece try using Euonymus or any other evergreen shrub (small shrub liner 9cm pot), Heather, Dwarf Conifer or ornamental Cabbage (Kale) infill with hardy alpines :- Sedum, Acena, Thymes, Cineria, Ivy, Ajuga and Saxifrage to name but a few and pansies, make sure they are the winter flowering type i.e. Ultima, Universal, challenge etc. Viola Avalanche, Primulas, Dianthus and a few spring flowering bulbs (dwarf). There is no need to water baskets everyday, just check the weight of them by lifting slightly you will soon tell if they require watering by the weight of them. This is from this site..... http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk./autumn.htm HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks. When he bought them, you were the first one I thought of to ask what they were. You are always posting about your gardens and plants, so I figured you would know. I somehow figured they wouldn't survive til next spring, unless I was really really lucky lol. I wish I had a green thumb like my Granny did, but she didn't pass that down to me lol. However, I have been doing much better, so far, I haven't killed any of the plants he bought me this Spring/Summer lol

Fuschias grow in England too so they do grow in colder climates, they do die off in the winter but flower all summer and if allowed can turn into quite a big shrub. I've always loved them I think they look like tiny ballet dancers, and there's an amazing variety of different colour combinations to choose from now not just the old purple and pink.

I have read about how to cut them back for the winter. I also have one that is pink and white. You're right they do look like little ballet dancers, hehe.
