Hello guys, have you ever heard about modified Windows operating system? That's the Windows operating system which has been remastered with tools like nLite or vLite, adding or removing features or functions, even applications and tweaks. One of the famous groups known to make such Windows modification is eXPerience. There are some remastered Windows done by them, such as Windows Tiny XP, Windows Tiny Vista, etc. I myself got my own version of remastered Windows done using nLite (Indonesian). So, how about you guys? Do you use remastered Windows? Or do you choose to go with the original one? Please share your knowledge and reasons...!

Hi! I think modified Windows is better, because i can't look to my monitor every day with green startbar and start button... it's tired... I have on my pc Vista transformation pack with all windows vista sounds (included - boot screen, logon screen, all interface, icons and Vista sidebar :) There is my screen of my desktop :) I like it very much! Sorry for my bad english! Have a nice day and happy mylotting! Screen : http://816.sytes.net/bitbucket/desktop_1216118010.jpg

Yes. There are transformation packs available capable of changing the look and feel of Windows XP (themes, icons, sounds, etc). It is relatively easy and safe as it won't change the features of the operating system, only the appearance will transform as if it is Windows Vista. It is better to people that do not want to toy with their OS.

I have only tried using nLite and that is just to remove the built in messenger for I never use it, aside from that no more. I've read one could reduce the size of installed windows by removing bundled application that normally bloat an OS but with increasing capacity of disk drives I have never pursue using it. Maybe this could be use for portable OS. I wonder what Tiny Vista size would be after remastered.

It will be no problem for your current computer, I think. Those remastered Windows are for people that want to experience new look and feel plus extra update and software they normally install by themselves. Better use it for personal computer which is really personal. There are two Tiny Vista I know so far. The first one has been reduced to 2,2GB after installation, and the second one, which is for gamer and browser, has been reduced to 600MB installation. You can imagine how many Microsoft's handy works being thrown away from it then...

Wow! talk about trash, for tuned in specific needs Vista can run with just 600MB! I think the normal vista take something like 8G. No wonder they're talking about Window 7 that would be much a leaner OS. Thank you very much for sharing this Ramaditya.

You are welcome! Although, you cannot expect Vista's great features from 600 MB installation. Use it only to browse the internet and play game (online or offline), as almost 80% features wihch are not related to gaming and browsing have been stripped away from the operating system. I suggest you learn from vLite (the application to reduce Vista installation) documentation and make your own customized Vista.

Seen some at work. Generally they are good and not a bad idea/concept. As long as you trust your donwload source, you should be okay (otherwise, there might be trojans, etc, bundled in).

Yes. The only problems which people creating these kind of modification is that they remove the capability to upgrade your current operating system. So you have to delete / or format the existing operating system and install from the start. I think that's the only downfall from working modified Windows installation.
