Who Washes your Clothes?

Please do not answer Washing Machine. My question is Who and not What. Who is the Person who operates the Washing Machine or who hand washes your Clothes daily? When I was young, my Grandma would hand wash my Clothes everyday. She hand washes all her Clothes because she thinks the clothes will be cleaner that way. Now, my Mommy is the one Washing my Clothes (except for undergarments). She's the one who operates the Washing Machine and hangs my clothes dry. She also helps me to hand wash those clothes which cannot be Machine washed. The only time I wash my own Clothes was when I was in Hostel. Washing Clothes is actually not difficult but I am just too lazy to do it myself To compensate for my laziness, I do other types of household chores at home. Please do share. Thanks for sharing.

The mojority of the time, it's my mum that does it, Hey! I'm 18 I don't have to... But my dad also does... And so do I... On occasion! But no it's not difficult at all, It's the same amount of stress as peeling an orange! Not Much!

I hope you are proud of yourself for being lazy. Is it a good feeling to be amused that you use your mother and grandmother and treat them like doormats? Shame on you.

I wash the clothing in my house. I do all the laundry that comes through my house. Clothing, sheets, towels, everything. As long as its in a basket and brought to the laundry room I do it. I put it in the washer then the dryer and fold or hang when its all done. Then I put every thing away.

Well my house is 4 stories. The bedrooms where most of the dirty clothing is - is on the 3rd floor. The laundry room is on the first. So it is a lot of carrying up and down stairs but good excersize!

Is it expensive to hire people to wash clothes?

That's very affordable. Laundry washing in Singapore costs at least a few hundred a month.

Come on...never say lazy to yourself. Washing clothes is very enjoyable. Your clothes are not very dirty, isn't it? All you have to do just soak it first in basin of soap water and leave them for about an hour. Then gently scrub them with your palm. As for the colar you need to use brush and scrub harder to remove the stain. Rinse with clean water and put them in the washing machine to spin. If don't do it now, sooner or later you have to wash your own clothes too. So why not start now?

I wash my own clothes and my two sons and occasionally their fathers. Not so much their fathers anymore. But trust me thats a lot of laundry to do. I just throw it all in the wash I dont seperate or hang dry or stain remove even though maybe I should. Wow come to think of it I might need to take a washing clothes class because I think I know why I need to buy clothes so much. hehe

I have 3 laundry baskets sitting in our upstairs hallway outside the bedrooms. One is white, for whites that are bleachable (mostly sports socks and underwear, all white t-shirts). One is green for coloured items, and one is blue for darks. All shades of blue are considered dark because I then separate the darks into two different loads - darks and light darks (light blues and grey). The colours also get separated - one load is pink/purple/red/orange, another is yellow/light green/beige and some multi-colours if they are not dominated by red, pink or purple; and another load is unbleachable whites which consists of my daughters Taekwondo uniform, bras, camis, t-shirts with pictures on them and some sweatshirts and hoodies which are predominantly white but have other colours on them. I take my laundry seriously (see my post, page 8 or 10 or somewhere around there).

You can start by separating the clothes and hand washing those more expensive clothes.

Before I was married, it was my mom who operated the washing machine. I didn't even know how to operate a washing machine till I got one of my own around 2 years into my marriage. I used to wash my clothes by hand when I was at a hostel. After I was married, I would wash our clothes the old fashioned way by hand....till I got a washing machine of my own. I am the one who operates the washing machine now....my older son knows how to too...and sometimes does it when I am busy with something else.

Yes, my older son loves to help...and I let him. I don't think that's going to be the case with my younger one.

From the time I was living with my aunt and her family until I was about twenty five years old, my aunt was the one washing my clothes. I had been with them since I started studying here in the city; in my kindergarten years, that is. They only have one child and a female, so somehow, I became her closest cousin and her only sibling. And my aunt became my guardian and my second mom. When I came back in the province in 2002 to be with my parents and tried my luck in being employed there particularly in the local government, I was the one washing my own clothes naturally. And sometimes, I would help my mom wash their clothes, too. After about a year, I got married and normally, I'm the one washing my own clothes, together that of my husband's. I have increased my role now, from being only a daughter, cousin, sibling, and niece; to also being a wife and mom at present. I'm the only one working for my own family as my husband is taking care of our daughter; so most of the time, he is also the one washing our clothes as I'm too exhausted to do this after a day's work in the office.

Goshhhh...this is my 4th attempt, Mylot keep asking me to sign in. My response for your topic couldn't get through. Hope this one does. By the way, I prefer to hand wash my clothes but it's very time consuming. At times I would bundle all my dirty clothes and wash them at my parent's place. My mum still prefer to hand wash even she has a new washing machine now. I can't wait to use the new machine though. Back in the old days, my mum use to blue starched ( homemade starch ) all the clothes and sun dry them until crispy, that's her bench mark of excellence. And they were wrinkle free and hard, I bet if I put them in a up right position, they could easily stand up without any support. Cheers and happy posting

I am not ok to put money on washing machine whcih is a big investment and it charges me in way of electricity too so i calculated the best cost output method as i could get cheap cost labor to make the washing things at home so i am using a maid at less cost than otehrs

I'm the mom, so I do the laundry. I wouldn't really trust anyone else to do the laundry right. When my daughter is older, I'm sure she'll want to wash her own clothes in the machine, so I won't mind, then. But for now, I do all the machine and hand washing. I like taking care of my family and making sure they have clean clothes. It's not my job, but it is something I want to do!

My daughter in law washes my clothes now. I am disabled and unable to do my own laundry anymore. But I have done my share of washing clothes. I started when I was just a little girl and we didn't have a washing machine. We washed clothes on a scrub board. So now, since I can't do the laundry anymore I really do appreciate my daughter in law doing it for me. She is the best daughter in law in the world and I am so lucky to have her. I am really glad to read that you compensate by doing other household chores for your Mom. That should work out pretty good.

I wash my clothes. I do not want others to wash my own laundry because I still treat my clothes as personal things. Since it is personal, I should have the one who will manage in maintaining its cleanliness. Aside from that, I feel a certain satisfaction when I smell my clothes after It has been dried. I feel joy because I am able to clean my own clothes and it means that I am an independent person.

Hey Pooh:Well, I have come to the conclusion that if you have ANYONE doing laundry for you, you have it made, lol! I'm sorry to say that, BUT you must understand that since I was a young boy, my mother made me do the laundry. Even when I didn't have a washer and dryer in the house, there was a laundromat nearby in which she made me use my little feet and trek to. And let me tell you, I couldn't stand it at all. I did laundry at least once a week and I did get tired of it, but it is nothing to me now since I am in college and have no choice but to do it if I expect clean clothes...Wish i could have a break!
