Tired of the Juggling Act! To Work or to stay at home?!

Some days, I feel so tired of this juggling act of work and childcare and feel like I just want to chill and get out of the rat race, maybe take a career break and move to a little village somewhere and have some peace. Do you stay at home with your kids or do you go to work? Do you work part-time or full time? Was it or has it been easy for you to come to that decision or was it the obvious option for you? Do you think you made the right decision for you? I think I made the right decision as the option was not open to me to stay at home at the time.. but don't think it was the best one for us and it has been a struggle. I am sure it varies for some people but I am a mother hen and will stay at home for the rest of brood i see on the distant horizon somewhere! What about the rest of the parents or parents-to-be?

I am a work-at-home mom and I have been working part-time from home for over a year now. It has been the best "career" move I have ever made. I have no career to speak of (LOL)in the sense that I am not going to ever get promoted or anything, but I am satisfied working from home. My work is mostly projects-based and when I don't want to work- I don't :) But I also do all the chores at home so some days that can be a real bummer especially when my daughter is being difficult. But slowly over the past year I also learned to let some things slide (with my daughter and some of the home chores) I realized I don't have to kill myself trying to keep my home *sparkling* that there are more important things I can do with my time apart from scrubbing every square inch of the house.

Good for you. I think you know when you've made the right decision

I took up this apparently part time job and it's now more than a full time job. I love my work but it is affecting my home front. I want to quit and stay home...but my husband wants me to continue. I'm still thinking about what's the best move for me. I have a couple of months to decide (unless I want to quit riht away). I have an 8 year old and a 22 month old...and I don't want my working affecting them in any way.

I've been thinking about this just recently as we are trying for a baby. I feel tired now when I get home from work, how on earth am I going to cope when and if we do have a baby. I feel like giving up work to spend time at home, but it's no way practical, how could we afford to live, especially these days with the credit crunch etc etc. I can't really change jobs now. It a bummer! I really don't know how you ladies do it!?

I stay at home with my two boys and I do daycare in my home. I also sell avon part-time. I would not give up staying at home for nothing. I have been able to watch my boys grow. When I worked it was never to much and it just would cost more money now to find a part-time job away from home the way gas and daycare expenses are!!!

I am a stay at home mum, I have two kids, 13 and 11, and have not had a job since leaving in November 1994. It was the best thing ever, to be at home with my kids for all their 'firsts', all their special days at school, holiday, Xmas, etc. But also for me it has been fantastic, being able to get up in the morning, look at the weather and choose what to do with our day without having to beg for precious time off from anyone else. HOWEVER... for the first six years of this we were sooo broke I literally had no money for choices. When my oldest started school and my youngest started doing two mornings a week at playgroup, I joined a network marketing company (Forever Living Products, the aloe vera company) and it has been the best decision I ever made. I work really part time hours, working with a fun group of like-minded girls (we all want to see more of our kids and less of the inside of an office!) and I earn a full time income. I recently stopped working the business altogether for a couple of years when I had a few personal ups and downs and, because of the way the business works, I kept getting paid every month for two years! Before I was shown the opportunity with Forever I was really worried about the financial situation, I knew I had to earn money but having had a taste of freedom I really didn't want to go back to work, so I would totally, wholeheartedly recommend looking at it as an option! I'd be very happy to chat to anyone about working with Forever and what's involved. Hope this is useful!
