Life Insurance Is it Necessarry

My friend offer me to get life insurance couple weeks ago, he works as the agent, but at that time i'm delaying it, i'm still consider whether i'll join or not, is it necessary to have one? I thought life insurance can only be claim if we have serious injuries accident that cause spesific physical defect,that can make you be able to work anymore, died or when you suffer spesific illness in their TOS list. But i like several benefits that my friend offer me, it can cover whole of your family, like wife or husband and kids, and also it gives you somekind of investments product they have ... anyway is these good or bad? Combining insurance and investments together which is the main product is insurance? Oh, i just don't like the word "spesific" word and you must pay for several years (for a loonnnnnnggggg period) these is usefull sometimes i think, but not always ... my thought .... How about you?
