How do you handle rudeness here in mylot?...

Well how do you actually handle a rude response to your discussion... or a rude comment to your response?...
I have experienced both... and i sometimes ask myself why people can be so rude... when in fact i am just voicing my own opinion... i believe we are different in every way... but i think politeness and tolerance is a universal value inherent among human beings... so why can't we just exercise that...
Whenever i encounter rudeness here in mylot... i try just to ignore it... and still give that member a positive rating... i just say to myself... "maybe i am just being too sensitive about the matter?"...

Hi aseretdd,
I have a high tolerance also about that attitude and like you, I will recognize their effort in being present in my post but will not argue about anything..I honor and respect responses even if it opposed to what I believed considering that we are all unique..As much as I appreciate it to be delivered in a nice way choosing a nice word when expressing their thoughts but by nature, there are really people who are like that!
So, I won't allow it to ruin my positive energy here!

I agree, with our soft and warm words to their rude words might help them realize to treat people well in real life and online!
It's the only best thing we can do to contribute this world to make it a better world for everyone even if it's killing us with all the economic crisis..LOL!

rude? what do you mean by the word "rude"? can you give me some exact examples? they use some dirty words or just talk in quite a different respective? i have never encountered any rude responses, coz i think i respond to any post in a polite way, if someone feel my post is kinda annoying, it's me that will say sorry first.

I think the main reason why you have not encountered such is that you are a fairly new mylot member... judging by the number next to your mylot name... i have been here for more than 1 year... and have encountered members who try to make people feel bad...
I was called dumb twice... and that was because i voiced out my opinion... or responded to a topic that i know i am very familiar with... thanks for the response...

If that person is just plane rude I will not rate them. I try not to rate someone negatively. If they are rude and I feel they need to be spoken to I will try to say something to them in a positive way. Sometimes I have to just leave them a lone and another myLot person will come alone and put the rude person in check for me. I do love it when another myLot person sticks up for me. Heehee

It is very nice to see some other member defending us against rudeness... even if they do not have to... the best way to handle rudeness... is to give a polite comment or to just ignore it... int the long run...they will just get tired of posting rude comments... thanks for the response...

I have come across one person who has been rude to me and rather very judgmental to me. I have instructed him that he was wrong and told him that it was rude but not in any unkind words. I also rated him negatively and reported him, the response was removed. This particular comment was bad enough that I felt I didn't want to see it anymore and I had it removed. I am sorry that people have been un kind to you and I think that it is not very nice manners. I greatly appreciate your discussion and I hope that you Have a Very Lovely and Wonderful Day!

I think you did the right thing... we can always ask the mylot admin to remove rude comments... especially when they are too below the belt... it is just a good thing that such rudeness with great intensity have never happened to me... and i hope it never would... thanks for the response...

Ignore them!! You are doing the right thing. If you ignore them, as if they don't exist they will not bother you anymore. There are people who are just voicing their opinions and not in their mind that they are already offending somebody. there are some also who are unaware that what they say is already rude to other's feelings. Well, the best option is to IGNORE them. Rating them negative would just add to their bad mood. so just leave them blank and ignore. They will realize it later. good luck and have fun!!!

that's very considerate of you. fortunately for me, haven't had such experience here so far. Although it is not something new to me, since I've been to other forums as well and have encountered rude forumers. Most of the times I try to ignore them, thinking that they're not worth the waste of time. Although there are sometimes they get on my nerves and I try to respond, not on their level of course... oftentimes, it only makes them worse.
Makes me wonder too, why do they have to be rude? Definitely there's a better and more polite way of saying or contradicting an opinion. I understand we don't have to agree all the time, but we definitely don't need to punch each other.

You are quite new here in mylot... so you still have a lot to encounter... but in my experience... those rude mylotters do not stay long... it is like they stay just to reak havoc among those who are loyal users of mylot... and like you i try my very best to just ignore them... even though sometimes... they do get in my nerves too... thanks for the response...

I've never had any rude comments again my response and I've never been rude on comments on discussions. If someone was to comment rude to my response I would either ignore it and did not answer back or I just reply to that person to cease being rude. I am largely ignorant person anyway so why I should bother to the childish-mannered person? It just simply waste my time.

This is a nice discussion, I must say. Even I have been coming across some rude comments here. I just ignore those and say thanks and move on. However, it feels sad!
I guess, I am like you, try to give benefit of doubt to the respondent.
Thanks.

I know people are diffent... but sometimes i wonder why they can't seem to accept that others have their opinion too... but then... i guess that is how they were brought up in their own world... so i will continue on ignoring them... to the point that rudeness will never bother me again... thanks for the response...

If they are rude, I don't give them a positive rating. I might not give them any rating at all, but I don't want to reward rudeness. I know you're very nice, so it is probably just habit to give a positve rating for you. : ) It is hard sometimes to know how to deal with the rudeness on this site. Especially if it comes out of the blue. I've had someone say something rude and thoughtless to me before about a serious matter with a family member's health problem. I was pretty shocked. But then much later I posted a very light hearted discussion, and out of the blue came a rude and somewhat hateful response. If it is a blatant attack on me or someone else, I would report it. And it has to be really bad. We are all entitled to our opinions, rude or not. But if it is plain old abuse, I report it. Most of all, and as hard as it is, I usually either ignore it, or I actually respond kindly. The last time this happened I responded very nicely to the other person's thoughtless response. They didn't take it any further, and I felt kind of good that I didn't sink to their level, as tempting as it was. : )

Yes, rating positive has been quite a habit... but i think that is a form of fighting the trolls here... i don't really go on a rating spree... but every little help counts...
I admire you for handling those who were rude to you with poise and courage... some people can just be to insensitive... i wonder what happened in their life that made them that way... thanks for the response...

I agree with you... rude people usually want to start an arguement where they can show more rudeness... so it is best to comment in a polite way... i also do that... then whatever they comment back... i usually just ignore... thanks for the response...

I don't quite follow you. Do you mean you give someone who deserves a minus a plus? I would never do that. I do not agree that politeness and tolerance are universal values. Maybe they should be, but in reality, my observation is they are not, and so when people are polite to me I am generally polite back ,but if they are rude I either vote with my feet or tell them where they can put themselves.
You and I probably agree though that people should put their best foot forward when they are guests on a social networking site such as myLot. We find, though, that a few people disagree.

I made a personal rule that i will only rate minus when the response contain curse words or are racially prejudice... but the rest i rate positive... because i always consider the time and effort spent by the member in responding to my discussion... you are quite a tough person... to be able to tell people their place... i can be like that... but only when i have reached my limit... thanks for the response...

hi aseretdd when I experience a really rude remark I just hit delete but usually if its not too terribly insulting I will just ignore it and hit positive as I normally do. but just one time I did receive a really vicious attack against me and a fellow mylotter and I hit the third choice showing mylot what a
terribly vicious response this person had made. This vicious
mylotter was kicked out of mylot because a number of complaints had been lodged against him. sometimes I make a comment to the
rude person suggesting that she was breaking mylot rules with
her extreme rudenss.

I give it straight back, but usually in the form of an educated intelligent response, designed to make the other person feel rather silly. Kill them with kindness, yes, but also kill them with intelligence. (metaphorically speaking. killing is bad, peoples.).

Well, you are right about ignoring that person.Just remember, you don't know these people. maybe you have different beliefs and culture. What may be offensive to you may not be offensive to them. Just go on, keep joining discussions and just ignore the person. People are really different in every way. Do not feel bad. They do not know the REAL you same as you don't really know them also.Cheer up!

If it needs any clarifications then do clarify to erase any misundterstandings. But if there is no such scope then its better to ignoreit and there is no point in strtching it.Just forgive and forget to save yourself from any feelings hurt.

First, I think that some things are a communication issue. While it feels like they are rude, it might be that their English isn't that great and it is just worded a little harsh. But for the most part, I just ignore rudeness on the web. Where ever you go, someone is going to be rude. Unfortunately it is a part of life.

Some maybe a communication issue... but that is not always the case... i usually look at the other response of the rude person... and i always find out that they have the same attitude towards other members... i am also not very good in English... but i can distinguish a communication issue... thanks for the response...

I guess it depends on how bad the rudeness is. If it is just that the disagree with your opinion then I would argue the opinion. Some people can come across rude when typing and not mean to be.
But if it is all out rude and meanness, then I just blow off the whole discussion. I figure if people aren't smart enough to argue a point without getting mean then they aren't worth my time or intelligence.

I don't consider disagreeing with my opinion as rude... but when they say that i am dumb... or that my discussion or response is dumb... that is outright rudeness... i still comment... but i try not to add fuel to their rudeness... thanks for the response...
