what is the main different between a student and a pupil in high school?

What is the main different between a student and a pupil in high school? With me,i get another point of view when I am a student .I see a things in a different way ,clearly and deeply . I think it change because when i am student ,I was independent with my family ,I live in host and spend more time with friends ,pay more attention with works and life around me ,think about life after I finish my course in university . When i am a student ,I really face with troubles and ready to live for me and for other . And u? what is the main different between student and pupil?

maybe pupil should also rely on their parents
however students can do something themseves
this is iprovement
