                    I would presume that you know HTML.
XHTML is a stricter & cleaner version of HTML. It means Extensive Hyper Text Mark up Language. 
It has some rules like every tag should have a closing tag, the tags should be nested perfectly, there must be a doctype declaration etc.

xml + html
