Christmas,santa and socks ??

I have always been wondering whats the exact relation between this three.Sorry but im not a christian thats y i dont knw anything about this .But i am jus curious to know why socks? I have seen in many movie people use to hang socks over that fire chimney.Good answer will be heartly welcum.

The legend says that St. Nicholas was a man who liked help out the poor but would do it without being known. One night he threw three coins down a poor family's chimney and they landed in the stockings that the daughters had hung to dry by the fireplace. So the tradition of hanging stocking by the fireplace for St. Nicholas (and now Santa Claus) was born.
