Who has knowledge about dying hair at home?

I decided to try to get a lighter hair color. First of all, it would be helpful to know that when I go blonde, or bleach my hair, it comes out red. They say I have red pigment, if that makes any sense. I am naturally a very dark brown. Friday I bought a dark blonde home hair color kit. It didn't really seem to do anything. In the light I could see some red, but all in all it was still dark brown. Sunday I tried again, with a much lighter shade of blonde. I definitly got results. The hair now is mostly a golden red, with light brown undertones. It is still a bit darker than I want. My first question is how do I get a bit of blonde into my hair without making it too red? My second question is how soon would it be safe to color it again? This color isn't too bad, but I don't want to stick with it for long. I really want it lighter.

Hi :) I dyed my hair from black to blonde, it tooks 4 hairdyes. in two days, but i had it really really light blonde! Just how i wanted :D Dont listen to the recomended development time on the packet, your hair wont fall out! Leave the dye on until you get the right shade of blonde that you want. Then just to make sure your hair isnt so damaged, get a deep conditioning treatment. Apply it before you go to bed on wet hair as it says... then sleep with your hair wrapped in a towel, and wash it out when you wake up. Your hair will be so soft and healthy :) Also dont shampoo when washing hairdye out, as this fades the colour! hope that helps? Good luck x

You probably don't have red pigment. The longer I leave it on, the redder it gets. The first dye on Friday was fine, I left it in about half an hour or so. The second one started to hurt my scalp, so I had to rinse it out a bit sooner.

I do have the red pigment hun, My hair goes bright orange half the time! lol! Like fire orange! I just keep dying it and dying it lol. Try and buy a dye thats for sensitive skin, this will prevent it hurting your scalp :)

you will damage your hair if you dye it again so soon. I would wait 4 weeks. I wouldn't put strawberry blonde or ash blonde in it. You could try that stuff called Sun In and it bleaches it when the sun hits it. I dyed mine last week and thought the box said dark brown and got it home and put it in. I have red brown hair now. more a light red highlights. The box said dark brown with bronze in it. oh well! good luck with the hair.

I used to use Sun In as a kid, and got red. That's what happens when you have red pigment.

brown usually turns red first. I have blonde so it is very easy to change color, but you should try leaving it in longer to take that red out.

The last time I colored my hair before now was about 10 years ago, but I remember I always got the same results. I've always wanted blonde, and nothing ever got me there. It's just my hair... you wouldn't understand unless you had experience with it. Not ALL brown turns red first, it depends on your pigment.
