Poetry about Family

I would like to share a little original poetry about family to sort of inspire anyone interested in doing the same. I didn't know whether or not to include this as an interest under "Family" or under "Poetry." You can decide for yourself where it should go. The title of this poem is: "A Grandmother's Role." As Mother, you constantly paid up your dues With sacrifice being the price. Though often your happiness turned into blues Today the results are quite nice. You brought up your children the way they should go, And now the rewards have arrived. You've restarted life in a grandmother's role Since as a young mom you've survived. The best part of living has now just begun As grandchildren enter your life. Your role as a grandmother really is fun Like starting out "husband and wife." The first role, of many, a grandmother has Is as "baby sitter" at times. But this role makes grandmas grow older too fast. Good days, though, are not far behind. The next role you'll take as the years come and go Is as "teacher of things right and wrong." Traditional lessons and things that you know Will build, for them, foundations, strong. You'll teach them to bake all those cookies, so sweet And feed them what's best for them too. And after they're done with their food and their treat You'll teach them to clean, through and through. But even grandmothers can get tired too. You'll kick back that soft, easy chair. But unlike their parents, your day will be through And you'll still have most of your hair.

Great poem!!! I love the last line....you'll still have most of your hair. I haven't ever written any poems about my immediate family other than about spouses that were crappy. I am gonnna have to give it a try. I think you could have posted the poem in either place. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your response meggan79. I have read some of your poems meggan79 and they are beautiful and well written. But they strike me as being quite sad. Are you a sad person? I know, from your recent post, that life has not been too kind to you as far as marriage is concerned and I support you in that, but try writing about happier times or even the dream of happier times. It will make you feel better to put a more positive spin on your poems. It will make people feel good as well when they read them. If I am getting too personal, I apologize.

It is hard to get to personal with me. No, I am not a sad person at all (or at least I don't think I am). I have had crappy luck in marriage but that is my own faught. Each time I went in second guessing myself and coming out of it knowing exactly what I did wrong. I have written a few happy poems, but not many at all. I have really tried but unless I am just overly inspired to write them I cant. Instead of going to a therapist I think I turn to poetry. Helps me work out the bad things in my life so I can move on. I use it to get my feelings out about the bad that happens to others that I know I can't change or to just really put things into perspective.
