Starting discussions or responding

Some time ago I was responding to a discussion that asked whether you were an active discussion starter or a responder. It started me thinking. Not which one you prefer, but which one is actually more profitable. I feel like starting discussions brings so much more money. While responding I can just earn a point and maybe make my response worth more if it's longer and has emoticons in it... But with discussions I have so much more opportunities. Like inserting a picture, adding emoticons, rating the responsing and finally awarding the best response... What's your take on the subject?

I find it difficult to start new discussions . i always check for duplicate discussions before starting new discussions. i don't like starting discussions which is of no use. i have seen many mylotters starting new discussions just to make money. but i am sure starting so many discussions won't give us more money. only good discussions get money. Others (or atleast me) don't like to respond to same users discussion on the same interest in same topic which is of no use. like these," what if mylot is not there? what if mylot is a scam ? " I hate these kind of discussions.

I agree with your point that if the similar discussion is way too old then we may think of a similar discussion but not the exact copy. we should change the style and feel of the discussion. Thanks for the BR.

I get what you're saying. After some time repeated discussions get boring. On the other hand, there always will be people who respond to discussions like that no matter how many times the question have been posted. On theother hand I think that it's okay to post a similar question to the one that have already been posted if the previous discussion took place some time ago. thank you for your response

I prefer both but I am more on the side of responding to discussions because I start a discussion whenever I am really in need of an advice or solution. I prefer to be sincere in MyLot.

Since I often don't see a lot of interesting discussions on mylot, I feel the need the create my own which are in tune with my interests. I look around for discussions to reply to, but a lot of them are either boring, repetitive or something I can't identify with. It's been said that you won't make much money on mylot, nor will you make it quickly.

That's true. Mylot is not a place to make quick money. But it does earn money and I see questions about how to earn the most all the time. And thanks for your response

You can see from my profile that discussion started by me is less compared to responses to discussions. This means that I like more to respond to discussion than creating my own discussions. Starting new discussion is tedious than responding to.

I am not sure if I myself had responded to the same discussion that you mentioned. I actually responded with, I am a responder rather than a starter. But when I tried just this week, to make some more discussions, I found it out the same as what you have discovered it, that it is more profitable to make dsicussions. Although I am not so used in writing, I still respond to more discussions. But I never pass the day, and leave my computer without leaving a discussion or two for the day. KEEP SMILING = NEIL

hi calajane, i love both. it depends on my mood. i don't know if "economically", starting discussions is more profitable. i think responding discussions is more profitable. by responding a discussion, our responsibility is limited to just respond it. but by starting a starting discussion, we "morally" responsible to comment the responses, we will stuck in our discussion and get less time to respond others, so that the number in the bracket beside our user name is changing slowly.

You are sooo right! I remember the amount of time I spent just commenting to the responses I got. It was particularly difficult when the discussion was very popular... Then again that allowed me to earn even though I didn't do much participation outside of my own discussions... thank you for your response

I have seen my earnings increase more on days when I have many new responses to my discussions, and I have commented on all them. I think discussions earn more when they are active and have many responses, discussions with few responses earn less and you get nothing for discussions with no responses. I just enjoy responding more and I start a few discussions but I make many more responses, which earn enough for me to get paid each month. I thing of the earnings I get from discussions as a bonus payment on top of what I earn from writing responses.

That's a very good approach! After all, getting money for responding means you getting paid for something you did, maybe money from discussion you started are more like money from referrals or something thank you for your response

Responding to discussions is easier than starting a new one. And obviously less stressfull. I always worry a lot when my discussions have zero responses... thank you for your response

My take is I'm biding my time until I hit 500 and can cut and paste small excerpts from my articles in the form of a discussion, much like I do over at my blog at http://www.forthebenjamins.blogspot.com/ . At that point, I suspect you'll find me starting a lot more discussions that I respond to ;)

Check the paste thing again. Today morning I pasted "Thank you for your response" quite successfully... And: Thank you for your response (yup still working)

Yeah, it's worked from the beginning, for very small amounts of text (tinyurl.com comes in really handy if you want to link to anywhere, for instance). If you want anything about, ooh, fifteen characters or so, though, you can either paste it in tiny bits (which is a pain), or wait till 500. I'm doing the latter, mostly.

I like doing a little of both. When something comes to mind, I will start a discussion and leave it to add up all the responses. If I happen to be bored I will respond to other's discussion and not only help them earn money but myself. I personally think that writing discussion is more profitable because if you leave the discussion the money will add up and it will keep acumilating money for you. But see what works best for you and go for it!
