Why does my cat poop on my pillow?

Sorry for grossing you out guys but my 4 month old cat Alfred has pooped on my pillow a couple of times. He used to live at my parents' house and slept on everyone's bed there but never pooped anywhere other than in the litter tray. He doesn't go anywhere else at my house now except for the litter tray...and my pillow. Not my partner's pillow, not the pillow on the couch...just mine.
I know he doesn't do it out of anger or hatred because at the moment I am his favourite. As soon as I sit down anywhere he jumps right up and curls up on my lap and falls asleep. He's asleep on my lap now as I type this.
Does anyone know why he is doing this?

I have no idea but I would lose my patience really quickly with that. I wouldn't allow him in my room anymore.

That's something that's beyond me as well coffeeshot but I have a cat that used my kitchen floor all the time instead of the litter box and the way I corrected her was showing her her business and tapped her on the nose and said in a firm voice, NO! Bad girl! and then walked her with her on the floor to the litter box and put her in and petted her and told her "good girl" and then repeated it over and over till she finally got the hint. I do it about three times each time she messed in my kitchen till the next time she did it and tapped her on the nose and said NO! Bad girl! and walked her to the litter box for about three times and eventually she got it right. Your little guy is still pretty young and can be trained with consistant training. Good luck to you! Also, he's at the perfect age to be nuetered. I hope you plan on doing that soon so he won't get into spraying.

Is the litter box cleaned daily? Did you change to a litter he does not like? Did you consult with the vet? There is usually a reason for this. Have there been any other household changes?

I think when the cat poops on your pillow he is mad at you for something and is getting back at you. Dogs will poop on someone's bed when they are mad at someone. We had a cat that when it would get mad at dad for treating it mean it would poop on his side of the bed.
They say they will not poop where you feed them try leaving some food on your pillow or treats for the cat there. It might stop.

My sister in law's cat peed on her HEAD while she was sleeping!
I would not have kept that cat. Lol.
I'm not sure what the reason might be. I can't even stand the thought of it.

I do have an idea though, when he poops on your pillow, show it to him and say NO ,let him know you are unhappy about it then take him to the litter box and tell him there..Cats are very smart and he will understand you do not like it...Also cats like to leave you little gifts sometimes haha....

That is really hard, my roomie has a problem that the cats poop in her bed, but when she covers up her pillows they leave them alone. They seem to think her sheets are for pooping, not the blankets - go figure.
they leave my bed alone (knock on wood)
All I can say, is put your pillow away so he can't get at it, cover it with something that he doesn't like the feeling of (maybe arrange a mat that has double stick tape - they really don't like that stuff) or put it under your partners.
Good luck.

hahaha this doesn't gross me out a single bit. i've had my girl pee on me when i was lying in bed. the reason was that i didn't clear out her litten pan. could it be the same case for alfred too? do you have other cats in the house? coz another reason could be jealousy. alfred wants to mark your pillow as his so that no other cats will want to be there.

I do have another cat, Isabella. You might have a point, his litter tray is always clean but becasue I haven't been collecting the newspaper lately, I have been lining his tray with plastic bags that have been cut open. He might not like the plastic?? Ha it's funny when animals pee on you. You kind of feel warmth and at first you think "gee this cat/dog is really warm!": but then the warm patch grows and grows...then you realise you're being peed on. Being a vet nurse I know this feeling well

Hi coffeeshot! haha..Sorry didn't mean to laugh at you. But I really find it funny why Alfred does his thing on your pillow. I think he must love you so much and he is secured with your love that he knows that you won't get mad at him, if he does it. haha..I am just guessing here my friend because I really don't know why Alfred pooped on your pillow. Were the scars of Alfred already healed completely?
Take care and God Bless!

Ha I think he knows he gets away with everything too! Yes he has completely healed, thank you for asking. His hair grew back which wasn't to be expected so he looks like a normal kitten again

My guess is that he is upset with you for taking him away from his other home. My gentleman friend's cat HATES his twin brother and will pee on his clothes and poop on his bed, even though when he's not there, there is NEVER an issue of the cat having any accidents. He does it deliberately because the brother teases him and picks on him. He even peed on a small carpet once and dragged it to the basement and then put it on the brother's clean clothes. No one else's - just the brother he so intensely dislikes. They can't tell us they're upset, so they do what they know will express their opinion. He doesn't do it to your partner's pillow - apparently your partner isn't being held responsible for his being at your house.

You definitely need a new pillow. Throw the old one away and put a plastic protector on the new one. That should do the trick. Once cats defecate in one spot, they will go back to it even though the poop has been cleaned up. The plastic cover will protect your new pillow in case it is the location, not the pillow that the cat likes. Also, most cats don't like plastic fabric. It's slick and noisy. If these suggestions don't work, take the cat to the vet for a check up.

I have no idea why he would have done this in the first place but now that the smell is in your pillow(even after you wash it they smell it) he will continue. You need a new pillow and I would suggest maybe keeping him out of your room for a while till he forgets this spot. My Lucy will pee on my hubby's side of the bed if she hears us fighting but never with out a fight to set her off. I think it's just her way of telling Dad that I'm right and he's wrong.
Good luck.

I agree with everlasting. You have to get rid of the pillow. The pillow case will wash but the pillow probably won't get the smell out. I also agree that he is marking his teritory, which just happens to be you. Cats are so funny. I can't have one because my husband is allergic. I really miss them.

i don't know in alfred's case, but one of my previous cats had an internal hemorroid problem,he looked for the softest place to go,towels, pillow, any kind of cloth.finally i stopped him (after vet treatment) by giving him his own box with cloth scraps instead of litter to go on.
there's a chance it could also be a marking territory thing, though that's an extreme
way to do it.

maybe that is how cats show their love...poop on the pillow of the one they love...giving u a little gift to show their appreciation...
my pets never did that, maybe only in their old ages when they couldnt control their bladder.
i dont know, just guessing...

cant are rather territorial creatures. if you decided to move a litter tray to another location, the animal may and usually DOES continue to go in the place it was formally because of the scent theyve left behind in that area tells them thats where they are sposed to. usually.. an animal doing this would mean they are displeased with the person (my cat used to poop in my father in laws shoes or get right up on the table and do it in his coffee cup when hed been mean to him!) as this isnt the case with yers.. i suggest getting a new pillow. even though youve obviously washed the cases and whatnots.. the scent still remains there, thus triggering his behavior. take some time and disinfect yer entire bed. wash all the sheets and blankets (use bleach if you can without destroying them.. or put some lysol cleaner directly into the wash load, and then run them through an extra rinse cycle) hose yer matress down with said lysol disinfectant and buy a new pillow. it SHOULD help with the situation. good luck

First thing for any unusual behavior is a trip to the vet to rule out any illness. Cats, as you know, can't talk, so they have to use other means to tell you something is wrong with them.
I don't believe he is mad at you. He is probably marking a place where your scent is so that you won't forget him. He is showing you that he loves you. Pointing out his misdeed and telling him NO won't work with a cat. You need to remove all possibility of his scent being left there. Get a new pillow, keep the bedroom door closed or, at least, put the pillow out of his reach.
Good luck with this; it's a bothersome problem to say the least.

Well, I thought I'd heard just about everything a cat could or
would do until now coffeeshot! Mmm...I don't know. I don't think
he's doing it out of spite. It seems more like a crazy love thing.
I suggest getting a new pillow or putting the pillow near the
litter box maybe??? It is a strange way of saying "I love you"
but I sure know cats do that in peculiar ways. Just keep loving
him and paying alot of attention to him and see what happens.
