Should everyone get a second chance?

July 17, 2008 4:44am CST
British athlete Dwain Chambers goes to the High Court today to try to get his lifetime ban on competing in the Olympics lifted, in time for the Bejing Olympicas in a few weeks time. See the full story http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/07/16/sojimw116.xml Do you believe that in life people should get a second chance for the most serious of crimes and mistakes? Can people pull off that all-important change to their character or even learn something from it? We are quick to condemn but slow to forgive. Almost thirty years ago I made some srious lifestyle and financial errors which blighted my life and my family's for a long time but they stuck by me and I look back on it now as a learning process.

yes, i believe in second chances =] it takes me a while to forgive but when i do i realise that everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes and to forgive and forget or just let it pass lets them learn from their mistakes. if they do it a second time, well depending on the situation, sometimes there is a limit that they cant cross.. but if you made a mistake, you would want a second chance right? do treat people the way you want them to treat you... if you want to be forgiven for something you did that you wouldnt do again than give that chance to someone else... it could ultimately be the best for them in knowing that your forgiveness makes them a better person.

Yes, everyone should get a second chance as if we'll see in positive prospective might be that person would get changed by giving him/her a second chance. However on the other hand if you come to know anything wrong with that person before giving him a second chance then you should not. Bye.

People should be given second chance to prove that their have change. That include people who does a serious crime in their past but people do change and people around has to progress to give forgiveness(mental support) to them for them can be interact with people around them.

In an ideal setting, all of us should get second chances. But in this imperfect world we are living, not all of us can taste the sweetness of second chances. Well, whatever may happen, the most important thing is that the family stick together and that they face the problems hand in hand.

Hi MichaelJay, I feel that everyone should get a second chance if they show that they want to change. A lot of people have made some big mistakes in life, and have managed to turn things around because someone was willing to forgive and let them start over. Blessings

I am of the opinion that everyone deserves a second chance, I have been given second chances when I have done things wrong and so I should not judge anyone else or else it makes me a hypocrite. I think it does depend on the mistake or action made, how severe it is as to whether another chance should be given but for most things I think that yes another chance should be given. I agree with you that we are quick to condemn and slow to forgive.

There is a school of thought that says that if the consequences of an action are well known before hand, then one should live with those consequences. However, sometimes the consequences are out of proportion with the action. I was having a chat with a friend earlier in the week about CRB checks, and we were discussing how a criminal record for one thing does not necessarily make you unsuitable for all work where a CRB check is expected. However, I'm sliding away from the point. In the case of Chambers, I think his ban should stay. That might sound very harsh, but he knew the score and the Olympics is the pinnacle of sporting acheivement which means that those who compete in it need to be above reproach.

It is easy to say that everyone should be given a second chance. Even for myself, I have committed wrongdoings which I regret atthe end of the day and wanted to be given a second chance. However, if serious sins will be committed to my family especially to my twin daughters,(hopefiully not), even if it is Scriptural to forgive the one who sinned,as of now, my take is I can't give a second chance to that person - for the protection of my kids

sometimes we need to learn from our mistakes and pick up the broken pieces and make a new start. everyone of us wish for second chances so why not make somebody's day.
