Florida wildlife officer Adam Warwick dived into the sea to save a black bear from drowning.
The 26 stone bear was roaming into a residential area looking for food and therefore shot with a tranquiliser. Startled the bear ran into the water.
Adam realised the bear was heading for danger, stripped t his undies dived in and put his arm around the bears neck to keep its head above water. The fearsome but drowsy beast allowed itself to be rescued and pulled ashore.
Adam who works for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said: I was pretty surprised at how big he was. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was a spur of the minute decision. I was swimming toward the bear, trying to prevent him from swimming into deeper water. He was losing function in his arms and legs and was obviously in distress."
Once ashore, the beast was loaded on to a truck by a JCB and taken and released in a forest near Lake City. The bear had been left unharmed by its near-death experience.

What a cool story and what a brave man, I wonder if he met the bear at a later date if the bear would remember his kindness or just eat him.

I wonder if the bear would remember him at all!! Might be hard to track the bear down, they should have tagged him in case they meet again. Its nice to hear good stories for a change.

I have read stories of animals remembering a kindness from a human but not sure with a bear, because they are quite temperamental. It is good to hear these sorts of stories though.

I saw this and BRAVO!
The bear had been hit with a tranquilizzer dart to try to get it to calm down and sleep while it was relocated, I believe? so when the bear jumped into the water, the guy was afraid it would fall asleep in there and die. I am glad he saved the bear!
He deserves a plaque for this!

I think he deserves something for his bravery!! I mean not everyone would have ran into the sea to save the bear!! Im surprised he was able to swim while holding the bear up !!!
