Do you know someone who is or has been depressed? If you have ever known someone who is depressed do you know if sleeping really helped them to overcome their depression?
Or did all the sleeping make matters worse?
Also did the person have any other health problems.
Also how do you convince someone to get help for their depresssion if that person does not recognize they need help and becomes angry if you make any suggestion of counselling for them?
have any of you delt with this in your family or amongst your friends.

Hi! I think everyone who suffers from depression deals with it differently. Although sleeping is something that sufferers may feel they need to do a lot it is not necessarily the best thing. In my experience too much sleep can make sifferers feels worse, getting out thereand experiencing life is a better remedy, however it is probably not goint to appeal to someone who is suffering from depression. It's best to let them know that they are loved and you'll be there when they want to work through the problem, at the same time as encouraging them to take positive action.

I agree with you, but it is very hard to convince someone of that who gets very angry if you say anything to them about anything no matter how you say anything,
Hopefully he will wake up in a better mood soon, he slept all day yesterday and all day today so far, and will probably sleep all day tomorrow.
I wish I knew what would be enouraging to him,. because right now I do not know how to encourage him, and it is depressing me too.

I have been through this myself and although everyone experiences these things differently, the way that worked for me was the people around me notp ushing metoo hard to do things i didn't want to but at the same time making suggestions and letting me know they were there when i wanted to open up or start getting active again. I think the key was not forcing me. I know they found it difficult not to lose their temper at times because it is difficult for others to understand how someone is feeling when they suffer from depression. Hang in there, it sounds like you're doing all you can for him, just try and stay positive for both of you!
I hope the situation improves soon and you both start feeling a lot better!

I think sleeping all the time is a symptom of depression. I dont know of anyone who was cured of depression by sleeping all the time. They are not doing what they need to do for themselves by sleeping; so I dont see how it can possibly improve matters, unless the person is severely sleep deprived then maybe trying to catch up on sleep might help.

I agree with you too, I think that this is only making matters worse because he will not be able to sleep well at night with all the sleeping he is doing and will keep feeling worse it is just a very hard thing when someone is depressed.
Maybe the depression will improve one of these days I just don't know when.

Depression is a very bad 'disease,'sleeping does not help the situation neither does too much of talking with a depressed person work. Taking medication could help and if the person under depression is involved in religious activities it helps as well. Drawing programs and respecting the program that you have drawn helps a lot as well.
