Do you wear your seat belts, always, often, not at all?

Hi, I was looking over the state laws in the US about seat belts and found out that all the states except New Hampshire have seat belt laws. I'll have to admit that I don't wear my seat belt in town for errands, etc. I do put my seat belt on when I'm on the interstate or traveling somewhere out of town. I don't like to wear one cause they are annoying, but I do wear it. Illinois is really trying to enforce the law. The cops used to not be able to stop you just for the seat belt violation, but now they can. That makes it a little tougher driving around town with out them. Ok, so be honest, do you wear your seat belt? Have a great day, Char

I wear mine all the time but in my opinion we should not be making people wear them. They know what happens if they get into an accident and they are not wearing a seat belt. They know the risks and if they choose to take their life into their own hand then so be it. I think that is a waste of tax payers dollars to send cops out to make sure that seat belts are worn.

But most States passed a seatbelt law to save lives and in the process of saving lives it also saves tax payers money as the officials have to respond to less accidents with injuries now from us wearing seatbelts. This is also why some States have impimented a helmet law for motorcycle riders as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks for your response I totally agree with you about the law. I believe each person should be responsible for his or her own body and if they don't want to wear a seat belt while driving, that's up to them. It is not going to hurt anybody but themselves if there is an accident. Have a nice night, Char

I don't care if it is the law not the law if you are required or not required to wear your seatbelt I wear it all the time and make sure the people who are with me when I am driving are also wearing their belts. My brother has lost two friends because they were not wearing their seatbelts and our family almost lost one (thrown over 100 feet!). What I find absolutely annoying and frustrating is we are REQUIRED to wear seatbelts in Florida but "if you have medical insurance" you are NOT REQUIRED to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Figure that one out. Great question! Zelo

The statistics say that .01% of people die because they were wearing their seatbelt. I think I will take the 99.99% chance that it will help me when I need it. Thanks Zelo

Seats belts are suppose to be worn at all times,it's for our own goods and we're not doing anybody favour by putting our seat belts on at all times? It reduce the posibilities of getting killed when there is a car accident.

Yes, I always wear one and I make sure anyone in my car wears one too. Here in New Jersey, the passenger can be ticketed if they're not wearing one too.

Took me a while to get used to it; but now I wear mine ALL the time. I felt claustrophobic at first. I just kept tryin & once I got used to it, I can't drive without it. Sometimes when I'm pullin out of 1 parking lot into another nearby, I do hold it in my hand so ythe cops don't see I'm not wearin it & give me a ticket.

It is second ure for me to put my seatbelt on before I even have the key in the ignition. I also check to be sure others have their belts on before I put the car in gear to move. It is just a natural action now days for me. They have been enforcing the belt law here in Minnesota a lot lately as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It really depends on where I am sitting. If I am at the front, I'll definitely wear the seat beat (100% of the time). However, if I am at the back seat, I almost never wear the seat belt. My country did have a law regulating all passengers (front and back) to wear seat belts. They even imposed a fine system. If the police is around, I'll definitely wear the seat belt (even if I am at the back).

The seat belts are for our safety, it is like you put a helmet on your head when you ride a bike, I wear it if there are a low for it or not, we are talking about our safety, once I was driving and my young girl was near me in the front seat she was 2 year old, I was on that time dont use seat belt and hate to use it but when I am driving some idiot driver stop suddenly I was behind him so I stop suddenly too and that make my girl to fall down the chair but thanks God she was fine and dont get hurt, after this accident I wear the swat belt for me and for who are with me especially the kids. Have a nice day my dear.

Hi my friend I am so glad your little girl wasn't hurt in the accident. We had laws for young children in cars in our state many years ago. I remember having to get a car seat for my son when he was brought home from the hospital and he's 25 years old now. Have a nice night, Char

I do use seatbelt. I had a boyfriend before I have neil(the guy from my avatar)..who used to drag race...I believe he is still a drag racer until now.We make it a point to put on the seatbelt...for obvous reason..it's for safety purposes. Now that we are not together and we (me and neil) don't have a car.Even riding a cab I asked him or reminds him to wear a seatbelt.Esp.here in the Phils. we have a lot of reckless drivers who are so hard headed in not wearing a seatbelt.Would you believe I even asked the driver to wear his seatbelt..I am just afraid that we will die right away during car accident without wearing seatbelt. Simple rule will not do us harm..have a nice day char my friend.mwah.

I always wear my seatbelt. Here in Ohio, the fine is upwards of $60 for not wearing one. I'd be in favor of getting rid of the seat belt laws. I think you should be able to choose whether or not you wear a seat belt, just as a motorcyclist can choose weather or not to wear a helmet (here in Ohio a helmet is not mandatory). That's kind of silly if you ask me..

Hi my friend Sounds like Ohio has rather high fines for not wearing your seatbelt. In Illinois it is only $25. I don't understand the motorcycle helmet theory either. If they make us wear seat belts for safety, I would think that a motorcyclist without a helmet would be in much more danger without a helmet or vehicle around him to protect him. Oh well, that's the law for ya. Have a great day, Char

I have to admit that I feel naked without my seatbelt on. In fact it's so automatic that I do it before I even start my vehicle. It's also funny to see and hear my daughter tell people that get in our vehicle to put their belts on when they don't automatically do it. They usually just smile and give me one of those "yep...she's definately YOUR daughter" comments. Why wouldn't anyone do whatever they could to make themselves safer? So put 'em on folks...it's good for you!

In china, there is a law for safety driveing. But almost 50 percents or more drivers do not wear their seat belts. And most taxi drivers wear it ,because they will be punished by their company if not.

For many years I drove without wearing a seatbelt, I am ashamed to say, but nowadays it is something that I do completely automatically and it even bothers me not to have a seatbelt on.

I noticed that most people in the US and UK almost forget using their seat belts when driving, although most of time they remember and put it on(after driving for a while) but in Europe, most people don't forget this as they put it on even before starting their the engine of the car. It's now a most in most Countries and this is a very good thing. Be careful to put on your belts while you drive, the cops are out there to fine those without seat belts, they are making a lot of money from it,you know?

Only rarely do I not wear it, and that is usually in town, too. However, I do feel terrible when I don't wear it. My bf had an accident a year ago and he was NOT wearing a belt (never had UP UNTIL then!). He came out of it with a week's stay in the hospital, a broken left humerous (the upper arm bone), 6 hrs of surgery, 2 months of physical therapy, and he lost his job. The Highway patrolman said that IF he HAD been wearing his belt, likely he would have walked away with only scrapes and bruises. He has since learned his lesson and wears his belt all the time. It does NOT surprise me that NH does not have a seatbelt law. Laws, and life, is truly insane up there. Even here in the WILDS of Wyoming, we have a seatbelt law. (No helmets for motorcyclists, however! DUMB!)

I think their should be a helmet law for motorcyclists too, here in Oklahoma there isn't one either. I've heard of so many people getting killed in motorcycle crashes because there wasn't a helmet, there would be many lives saved if there was.

hi, i do wear my seatbelt wenever i m out n especially wen i m driving on the highway i never forget to wear it n i think all should do it to save their own lives. i would suggests the government to make it a compulsion for everyone to wear a belt and a helmet for those who r driving n also who r on the back sit. this will help in lowering the mortality rate to minimum.

I try to remember to wear my seat belt, but sometimes I forget and put it on when I remember it. There is a mandatory seat belt law in the state of Alabama and if you are caught you have to pay a fine.
