home made pizza....is it worthwhile?

Take away pizza is becoming so cheap these days, is it worth going to the trouble of making your own? Being able to get my 5yr old son involved is great, however the cost of making 2 pizzas is more than double what they cost from the shop. Even though home made are better for you, is it worthwhile going to all the effort and expense?

The biggest problem with bj is that after all the preparation and love put into making pizza, he picks off the pineapple and eats a little bit of crust. He is so choosy, lol, maybe I should put my pizza in a Pizza Hut box?

I think it is worth it to make it at home from time to time. It can be a fun experience with your kids. My son likes to top them. Other times I think that a frozen pizza or a takeout pizza are better. They are less time consuming.

I find frozen pizza is just not what you expect, some times the topping comes of when you cut it. At times I buy the frozen mini pizzas just because I know my son will eat them, but then I usually have to make something else for myself. This means more cost and more time involved, I will try frozen dough and keep having fun choosing different toppings.

Oh I think it is. I get so burned out on the delivery and take out variety that I like to have my own from home. Plus you can put on it everything you like and as much or as little cheese as you want. I like adding peppers, onions and pepperoni. Oh and think of all the fun you are having with your boy!

the question is: is it really cheaper to go get a pizza? you have to take into account delivery fees and/or parking fees/milage of the car... average price of take-away pizza: 6 dollar price for ingredients: flower: 0,05 yeast: 0,1 tomato from can: 0,5 topping (3): 2 cheese: 1 total: 4 dollar and a bit so almost 2 dollars differnece! its not much, but if you add all pizza you eat in a year up, you might come up with saving a few 100 bux.

Last time we made pizza I decided on the bases from the supermarket already made up, that was $6.20. We purchased cheese, pizza sauce, pineapple, diced ham, pepperoni, onion, and peppers. From memory the supermarket bill was $23.80 or thereabouts, we had 2 very nice pizzas admittedly, but I can walk down the end of the next street and buy 3 for $17.95. Obviously there is no mess and the time involved is about the same, however, the fun is throwing together a pizza made with love, lol.

I think when you do it at home you know the quality, and how it is made.

It's usually not very expensive for me in fact I think it is less unless you are comparing to the $5 dollar pizzas that are being offered at many pizza places these days. I tried one and they were'nt that great. I think they taste wonderful if you make them yourself. Making homemade grilled pizza during the summer is a lot of fun and tastes like an expensive restaurant pizza. If you don't feel like making your own dough you can go to the grocery store and usually they sell their own homemade dough or sometimes they sell frozen dough in the freezer section.

Home made pizza is worthwhile if you are making it with your children, but the cost would be more than its worth otherwise. Ring up pizza hut and get 3 pizzas and garlic bread delivered for about $25, this makes the pizza about $6 each, no mess and just as tasty. And i bet the kids still love it.
