Should promises always be kept ?

I sometimes wonder whether is it really essential to abide by all promises we have given. I confess that I did not maintain some promises in life and I realize that I did wrong. Promise has become a virtue for me. Should promises always be kept? What is the importance of a promise for you? Are you maintaining any promise right now?

Promises should be kept, but it isn't always possible. It is better not to make any promises then you don't let other people or yourself down.

I don't totally agree with you friend. You said not to make any promise- but why so? Maybe people will fear and will lack confidence in themselves that they can't maintain a promise, this may weaken people morally. Whereas while maintaining a promise, we can become morally more strong. I think we are self-confident, then we shall not fear to make promises. Do you agree with me friend?

promises are made to be broken lol some people will make a promise but in the end they will just break it. the example is the politicians, when they are running before elections they have lots of promises, interesting propaganda. but when they are already in the position, all of those promises are tend to be gone lol for me if say 'promise' i will make to the point that i will do it, coz im a woman of my word.. hehehe..

It is important and you must be positively sure that you can fulfill your promise if your going to make one. I will not make a promise to anyone unless I know for sure that I will keep it.

Hello,Excellence! If you promise somebody you must translate it otherwise don't commit.suppose you committed me to land me some money tomorrow for my urgent needs and subsequently you avoid me to give.how embarrassing it would be.so keep your words otherwise people would hate you.don't promise unless you stick to it.thanx.

I sometimes do what I had promise but most of the time I can't keep the promises that I've made.. I accidentally forget it or I can't fulfill it anymore.. Yes of course, keeping once promises is very important because the person who we had promised will be expecting so much from us and she/he will give his/her full trust.. But sometimes no matter how we tried to keep our promises, we can't keep it due to so much reasons.. As what others say "PROMISES MEANT TO BE BROKEN" and I agree in this statement because no matter how we try, sometimes we can't really keep and fulfill our promises specially if we forget it.. Right now, I am maintaining a promises to myself and to someone who is so very much special to me.. I somehow keeping still the promises and trying to do some actions on it..

I don't really agree with the quote "Promise is mean to be broken" I think it's not promise which is meant to be broken, but people themselves break the promises under different situations.

I think that promises should only be kept if there not hurting anyone whos keeping the promise or anything like that. I mean if a child made you promise not to tell anyone that she would be doing something dangerous, youd tell someone wouldn't you? Other than that exception, promises are very important to me. I always try to keep my promise the best i can. Currently the only promises I'm keeping though are the ones to myself and my parents.

You are right, we must maintain our promises depending on the situation. Thanks for your response.
