Why do crinkle cut chips (fries) taste so much better than straight cut?

I'm talking about home cooked chips/fries here - not 'potato chips'/crisps or the chips/fries from the chip shop. I'm sure I read the reason somewhere but I cant remember what it was. Maybe you dont think they taste any different?

I've never really noticed a difference in the taste, but if there is one maybe it's because crinkle cuts have more surface area to absorb the fat!

could be... but maybe its just the way they look. I think triangular sandwiches taste better than square ones
