Someone recently sent me some interesting news.
If you get stung by a bee or hornet tape a penny on it for 15 minutes.
Pain relief is almost immediate.
The copper in the penny some how neutralizes the protein in the "stinger".
I'm fascinated by old wive's tales and was raised hearing them all the time.
Which are your favorites?
Which are accurate?
Which are just plain "tales"?

Mosquito bites sting and itch a little bit.
Stop it by taking your finger nail, push down
and make an X on the bite. It relieves the itch immediately.
poof!

Well sometimes these old wive's tails are very useful, for example if a person has fallen down and there are some internal injuries then a glass of milk with a spoon of turmeric in it gives relief. This one is now being proved scientifically right as turmeric has antibacterial and wound healing capacity.

this is interesting. i've never heard this before
and
it makes total sense if you think a moment about it.
i like that you can treat some things without a costly trip to the doctors office.
we don't always need a magic pill
and, this proves some tales were very helpful !

This isn't an old wives tale but I figured it out totally by accident once. A great way to stop the pain of a bee sting is with a cold can of soda! We were on a picnic and I got stung by a bee, I had nothing else, so I just grabbed a cold soda from the cooler we had with us and boy it stopped the pain almost instantly, it was great. LOL
Also, for a burn, I don't mean sunburn but if you burn your hand on a stove or with hot water or steam or whatever, don't put BUTTER on it (THAT is an old wives tale that isn't true), use cold water. NOT ice, just cold running tap water. It really works, you have to use quite a bit, but it will stop the pain and in the case of a minor burn you'll end up not knowing you were ever burned in the first place. Of course with a more serious burn you should seek medical attention.
