This tree appears as if there was supposed to be a branch growing from this circular area. Now look at the rest of the bark to see the normal pattern for the bark. There were hundreds of this type of tree yet this was the only one marked like this. Have you seen strange trees at all?

I have seen trees growing out of other trees actually in Arizona many years ago. the roots were stuck inside of the crooks of the other trees branches. Strange.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! That is a very unusual marking and it really looks strange but find it so beautiful. It really set itself apart from other trees with that unique marking. It looks like a the shell/house of a turtle for me. haha..
Take care and God Bless!

Yes, it does look like a branch was supposed to be there. The strangest trees I have seen are the ones at Big Basin Redwood State Park here in California. There are some of the trees along a little 1/4 mile loop that look as if the bark was "braided" up the tree. I would post a picture, as I was there taking pics the other day, but I can't since I'm on big brother's computer. I will post one for you when I go back home next week. They are pretty awesome looking.

I have seen photos of the "Braided Trees" as they were titled. I think I saw it in a photography magazine years ago actually. Will wait for the photo. Thanks.

Thanks. You are a person of few words I see so far.
Nothing else to add here? You could always add something
along the lines of the question(s) asked in discussions.

We have all kinds of trees but i have never paid that much attention to them. When i was younger all i cared about was how i could climb it and as i got older life got in the way. Next time i am out i am going to have to walk back into the little area that we left with woods for the kids to play in and see if i can find any odd ones.

I am at that age where I have broken branches on my tree and I wait
for my son-in-law to visit so he can c;limb the tree to get them out.
