Does counting sheep really work?

I've tried to count sheep before to get me to sleep yet it didn't work. I get tired of counting and find something to do. Is it advisable to count sheep to put some people to sleep? I've heard doctors prescribe this kind of matter to a patient to get him to sleep for a better health. Have you tried counting sheep before you sleep?

I think the best remedy is to read books if you can't go to sleep. The eyes will soon get tired and will tell the brain to sleep.lol

I gave up on that years ago when I was a kid. Since then I have found that thinking about something pleasant or imagining that you are in a peaceful place that you enjoy helps more. I something imagine that I am sitting on a beach when I can't sleep and I think about the sights, sounds and smells that would be there. I let my mind wander and then I am able to fall asleep.

maybe it really does depend on how a person put himself to sleep. And a warm glass of milk to would work.
