Yet another candidate for president...

My daughter is voting in her first presidential election this year and has been researching different candidates to try and find one she agrees with. She found a candidate I had never heard of. John Hagelin is a physicist, a Hindu and is into transendental meditation and altered realities to achieve world peace and remedy other problems of society. His party is The Natural Law Party. This has me asking, Is there anyone left who is NOT running for president this year? I haven't started my grass roots internet campaign yet, but am seriously considering it at this point. (LOL) How about you. Are you running this year?http://www.natural-law.org/index.html

I'm not entirely happy with either McCain or Obama but, unless another viable choice is on the ticket, I'm going to have to vote for the lesser of the two evils because, otherwise, my vote will be wasted and I might as well stay home. I do understand that Ron Paul's supporters feel very strongly about him but he's going to have to be able to win individual states in order to have a chance of winning and I don't see him being able to do that, especially since he's suspended his campaign and isn't mentioned by the media anymore. This man that your daughter found may have great ideas and wonderful plans but, again, unless he can win states why should she waste her vote on him? The president isn't elected by winning on a national level...he's elected by collecting the electorial votes that each state holds. I'd run....but I ain't wearing no pantsuit!

haha yeah those pantsuits are pretty uncomfortable :P. Ron Paul has actually gotten more media though now that he is not running anymore. People are now realizing "wow he was right on a lot of things, especially economics." If you go to one of his websites, www.campaignforliberty.com you will see a lot of press coverage he gets daily. On that site he is campaigning for not himself, but for the constitution, and other people that are running for office that have similar beliefs. One thing about Ron Paul is that he got a lot of apathetic people into politics, and many are running for offices in the country now, and winning in state levels. With Ron Paul around he gets a lot of grassroots and silent America spoken for :).

Ron Paul has some good ideas. I think next election people will be paying a lot more attention to him.

I am not American and cannot vote there, but we have many fringe candidates up here, we have the Green Party, the Communist Party, and there are some decent ones that do not have enough members to get all but the minimum number of votes, but they give people a choice to vote for someone who will stand for the traditional values. I heard the Ron Paul down there is any good, and also McClain but it seems it is slim pickings. I think this John Hagelin is sort of a new age promoter and on the fringe. I wonder if his Natural Law Party goes to their meetings in cars or do they use flying carpets or levitate on the air. Sorry could not resist.

I was thinking the same thing about Mr. Hagelin. He's much too New Age for my sensibilities, and his plans for government focus on his philosophies. I don't think he'd get anywhere trying to solve the problems of the USA that way. Most likely he is trying to get people to consider his ideas rather than making an honest run for the presidency.

Being that I am not old enough to run for President I will have to say no I will not be running this year. I must say that John Hagelin will not be the one I will be voting for. I am not exactly a Natural Lawist.

Mr. Hagelin is a smart man but I don't think his solutions for world peace would catch on with enough people to do any good. Or that they would even work to solve the nation's problems. Maybe you can make your presidential run four years from now as you will be old enough then. Good luck.

Living in the UK there's no-way I can run for presidency yet as we have to put up with the one we already have at the moment for a few years (Gordon Brown)...your friend littleowl

I didn't think his ideas would catch on with other people and he couldn't solve the nation's problems by himself. I would only vote for one of the major candidates otherwise I'd feel my vote didn't really count. It amazes me that running for president is catching on so much. It seems everyone wants a piece of the action!

Though my candidate suspended his campaign, I am still going to write him in! I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, I turned 18 two days before the registration deadlines haha, so I am going to stick to him and vote in the general for him! I really can't stand the party politics between the two major candidates, so I will just follow my beliefs.

I admire you for sticking with your beliefs in this election. I differ in that I think one of the two main candidates is going to win, and while I am not crazy about either of them, I do think one would be far better for the country than the other, so I will vote for the lesser of two evils in this election.
