That sounds like a great deal of work and a very expensive tattoo indeed. If he really likes it this much I think it's his way to celebrate his love for the books even though for us it seems very odd. I hope he will love and treasure it forever as this is going to last him forever and should not be taken lightly.

Your welcome, I think that's the most important thing with a tattoo; to get something you love and not go with fashion so you are sure not to regret it .

A tattoo is a very personal decision. You don't get a tattoo to make other people happy, just to make yourself happy. If you can be happy with it for the rest of your life, then it's a good tattoo. Nothing crazy about it. My first tattoo was going to be from the movie "Heavy Metal". One of the female characters had a very cool tattoo on her neck. The character, Tarna, was beautiful, strong, sexy and her destiny was to be a protector and defender of the helpless. I loved the movie and the character. But, I ended up getting something else instead that meant more to me. I still may get that tattoo some day.

Whoa!!!Now that's a Tolkienatic. If I were to get tattoo it would probably be derived from LOTR too but as I can't get one I'd content myself with my LOTR actionfigures numbering more than a hundred MOC figures displayed in my office.:)
